Glad he has steadily put weight on instead of a instant bulk up. Should be 220 when he is done i bet.
Loik Leveille 5'9 228lbs....lol thats a fire hydrant. Almost like Ray Bourque was.

Not to belabour the point but I pulled up his draft (see the 2 minute mark)...

Maybe it's the vest / 3 piece suit, but he does not look lanky to me. Even the TSN people mentioned his build - Ray Ferrero called him "stout". Anyway, obviously he's bulked up since then... good for him. I wish him all the best.

Is there a credible source saying that his weight is now at 220 pounds?

The Oilers twitter said he is up 20lbs from last September. He was listed at 200/205lbs then.

They have him at 213lbs on the roster sheet, but a lot of the heights/weights on there look wonky.

193lbs to 213lbs would make sense as the 20lb gain if last season's numbers were off.

He will be a top pairing defenseman, no doubt about it. He can honestly play 35 minutes a game and be fine.

I don't think he'll become a huge offensive threat at the NHL level, but his mobility is his biggest asset. He's big, mean and can skate at an elite level.

This is why I think he'll be a really good #3 guy but not someone that should be full time on the top pairing. Need better offensive instincts to play consistently with the top line forwards on the ice

I think he's a top pairing Dman down the road, but just won't be able to provide a tonne of offense. However, if he's able to improve on his shot and become a threat on the PP, sky is the limit.

Yep i remember all these exact things, were said about our big man on defense.Defensemen take time remember that edm ,if he struggles

Interesting stats, but you can't use them in a vacuum, otherwise you get a D group of:

Klefbom - Nikitin
Potter - Sutton
Gilbert - Pitkanen

And think that will be a solid group to win you games.

Okay thanks!

The only thing I didn't like about Calgary selecting Monahan was that it left this kid hanging around for the Oilers. He's going to be a force.
The only thing that bugged me about us getting Nurse was that it meant CGY had just selected Monahan.

2 right choices for those picks, CGY needed the centre more, we needed the D-Man.

Both teams got the right guy, but either would have been well served with the other.

Pretty jealous of Edm. Nurse is just a nasty man. He can protect and look over the skilled youngsters if they ever take a dirty hit or cheap shot, all while being an extremely talented dman. You dont see that very often in todays NHL

Darnell Nurse: CHL Statistical Comparables and Expectations

In my latest post I try to find CHL players drafted between 1998 and 2009 who posted similar numbers to Darnell Nurse. I also look into how those comparable players performed in their third season after their draft year and what expectations a fan should have for Nurse, in his rookie season, if they expect him to become a #1 d-man.

I don't think it inspires more confidence in Oilers fans knowing that Jakub Kindl is the closest comparable for adjusted point totals in Draft +1,+2 years.

I do think he will have the ability to be a #2. I agree a #1 is too far fetched given his offensive upside and the mistakes he still makes.

These numbers do look very solid coupled with his unnatural speed for his size I know he's a player I can't wait to see, still deciding between a Nurse jersey or a Mcdavid
