What 1st period vs Norway for Kiviharju 3 assists already and game is not even over yet.
Maybe it is time to give some attention this young man too.

0+4 vs Norway tonight and player of the game award also.
Kiviharju had one scoring chance in 2nd period but this time puck didn't go in.

Absolutely showed today that why this young man has got so much hype
and why he's for now TOP 2006 born Finnish prospect.

I didn't watch the game and maybe he was excellent but it's still Norway and the whole tournament and his skillset and projectibility right now still has him outside the top 5 for 24 but like for all prospects next season will be extremely important.

The level difference between Canada & USA vs Czechia and Slovakia is about the same.

USA played against the same teams as Finland.

Kiviharju compares with Eiserman and Celebrini.

I just hope he will develop enough to be a good NHL player. At this point I don't care too much about a draft pick, it all matters when we look back after they have actually done all the work to get into the league. A few top Finnish forwards currently in the NHL weren't 1st round picks, so the number matters but it doesn't guarantee a long-term NHL career.

I haven't watched alot of the tournament just some here and there but Eiserman certainly isn't getting the feature role due to the nature of the USA lineup and Kiviharju is and take out their best game there is a gap between the 2 forwards and the Dman as far as projection and draftability goes right now.

After first period yesterday I thought Kiviharju is having a perfect game. The following periods weren't quite as dominant and included also one giveaway that lead into a semi-chance for Norway. Anyways, this game was the best I've seen from him. Looking forward to quarter finals!

Eiserman was fantastic against Finland, and I see him in top 5 discussions next year. Kiviharju probably around top 10.

There was a short intermission report on Kiviharju. Based on that interview seems to be very level headed and motivated young man.

I really hope Kiviharju improves his skating. I like his playstyle and see a lot of potential in him. But that skating clearly needs to improve or else he'll struggle at higher levels.

It doesn't bother you to compare a player who plays defender in Liiga with attackers in the junior league knowing that defenders generally take longer to develop.

Funny to hear people say that Kiviharju isn't progressing as he went from U16 to U20 in record time and only stayed 15 months in the Finnish junior circuit.

He is 3rd in current estimates. Not 25th.

Besides, if Kiviharju was American, he would probably be the team's No. 1 defender leading the game from the back.

So what are Nort American thoughts of Kiviharju?
And now i mean that if his goal is to be TOP5 lottery pick 2024 NHL draft
what would be better way to make that possible is it HIFK or CHL
if some CHL team drafts him?

So far Kiviharju has been rumored to HIFK but HIFK hasn't announced it yet.
HIFK has season ending event 4th may ( next week ) and expectations are
that HIFK will announce new player conracts.

Kiviharju probably won't be regular SM liiga dman in HIFK next season.
But he's going to get some games for sure because HIFK has been
most injury prone team in SM liiga last 5-7 years.

Of if team like London Knights decides to take Kiviharju in CHL import draft this summer
should HIFK loan him to London and let him play there his draft year.

Lassi Thomson played in Kelowna his draft year and then came back to Ilves.
so hw that example would work on Kiviharju's case and is it good or bad idea to go CHL
instead being 6th / 7th / rotation dman in HIFK.

Welcome to HIFK Aron.
What will be Kiviharju's role in HIFK SM liiga team.
If he's 7th / 8th / rotation dman who's mainly injury / suspension call up
and main team to play is HIFK a juniors i see that totally wrong route to develop Kiviharju.

Kiviharju is preparing his hockey careers most important season this year.
That means Kiviharju needs lots of icetime and games to get scouted to NHL etc.

IF HIFK cannot give SM liiga minutes so much what Kiviharju needs
and some CHL team drafts him to CHL import draft this summer then
Kiviharju should seriously consider to spent his draft year in CHL. because
that helps him to learn North-American game and being number 1 or number 2
puck-moving dman in winning / competing team.

Lassi Thomson played his draft year in Kelowna Rockets 2018-2019.
And returned to Ilves season 2019-2020 so why you think should
Kiviharju go that route if it comes possible?

I would hope so no member of Team USA's defender crop is projected as a first rounder outside of Hutson who is a 2024

Ilari Melart is 34 and past his prime, takes stupid penalties and his game is only going down, last season already was a bit meh
belongs in the 3rd pair in my book

Sami Lepistö is almost 40, no idea who got the idea of bringing him back to Sm-Liiga,
i can't see him get a role from HIFK not for long, he'll eat more popcorn what play games,
HIFK have better players what him.

Kasperi Kotkansalo, why is he ranked as 1st pair D?

Johan Motin is a good veteran defensive d-man, Motin-Melart 3rd pair could be a thing

Kiviharju, Kotkansalo, Salin, Sund would be my top 4 for HIFK
Melart and Motin would make the 3rd pair

Melart was best D last season on IFK. Lepistö was best D scorer on SHL playoffs year ago. Kotkansalo is roulette can be very good or out of lineup. Motin is easily worst D with a puck on this roster and if he fits on lineup its probably because he is right handed.

my defensemen would be:
Melart-Salin
Lepistö-Kiviharju
Sund-Kotkansalo
Motin

Salin, Kiviharju and Motin are only right handed defensemen on HIFK roster so Kiviharju will be on opening night roster if there are no more adds to D-core.

my defensemen would be:
Melart-Salin
Lepistö-Kiviharju
Sund-Kotkansalo
Motin

Kiviharju is not right handed though.

It's still so weird that a TPS kid like Kiviharju switches to HIFK. HIFK has a bigger budget than TPS so it's not like he's going to a small market team with weaker roster chasing more ice time. Something had to be wrong with TPS.

😂 i don't know what a f i was thinking but point is still same = imo he is top 6 but if IFK get one right handed d he will play less minutes.

Interesting to follow him this year. HIFK could be on something here with Joni Ikonen (who would probably play in NA if it weren't for all his unlucky injuries in crucial years), Vesalainen, Julius Nättinen, Kaskimäki, Uronen, Vinni and a couple of others.
Lots of talents and former talents who didn't take the next step in this roster. Could be interesting and a good move for him after all. The D isn't that impressive and none of those talents I've mentioned are D's.

I really hope they give him some confidence and room to make failures and play an offensive game and in the first PP. Finnish hockey would crucially need a talent after Heiskanen and Välimäki. I hope HIFK can see the bigger picture here.
When Heinola is struggling with the Jets organization, Vaakanainen injured a lot and Laaksonen didn't manage to take a spot in the NHL ,nor Juolevi. We need this.

On the other hand, TPS's defense is not that impressive either. A lot of similarities with their roster. Offense looks stronger with Nurmi, Palmu, Talvitie, Marjala, Hemming, Väisänen and Lindberg and Vali in the net. So perhaps a bit of a strange move.

Kitchener just hired Jussi Ahokas as their new head coach. I wonder if there will be a larger push to have Aron report to the CHL now.....who knows?!?!
