Full credit where credit is due, this is an excellent deal by Tre especially getting it with 50% retention and pushing the 1st to 2027

Laughton will be one of the better value forwards traded today defensively/offensively especially for such a low caphit post retention and is signed next season

I don't really have a high opinion of Grebs (or low opinion, I see him as just replacement level guy at the NHL level)

Laughton will be pumped to play for the Leafs. I hope it works out because I think he could be a fan favourite very quickly.

Good deal, i still think they need another decent defenseman. Whenever Tanev or McCabe went down this year you could see a big time dropoff.

So at the 2026 draft table the maple Leafs with their 1st round pick, got a player who tops out as a 3rd line center who can give you a dozen goals. And we got control of him for 1 1/2 years. Great pick Trev….

I don’t like the trade but Treliving did pretty good relative to the prices other teams are paying.

Laughton-Domi on the third would be interesting to say the least lol

Grebenkin will become another Mason Marchment. No surpise a team was interested.
He'll become a guy who fades in the playoffs? We already have enough of that.
I have to see how much of difference Laughton makes at 3rd C for our Leafs, however a speedy and gritty winger for only a 2nd rounder seems like better value than giving up a 1st rounder for only a 3rd line centre.

JMHO.
I don't love giving a 1st but you gotta pay if you want salary retention.

We still have our 2026 1st... for now.

We traded our 2027 1st (conditional on not being top ten, if so 2028)

Hoping for a Domi trade, need more size
I'm so beyond watching Domi, he's just not what's required to win it all, I don't care enough about him occasionally scrapping when he's a complete zilch for 20-game stretches all year long. I pity wasting Laughton at 3C being saddled by NRob and Domi - what a terrible 3rd line for playoff hockey.
If Tree doesn't shore up with another bottom 6 winger who's pure checking and defensively-responsible, I really don't think shoring up 3C with Laughton helps enough to nullify the terrible winger situation on that line.
*I suppose McMann could be there instead, which is much better, if Patches can be healthy for the POs but that's a big IF.

I have to say, I like this a lot more than I thought I would. Only 1.5 for a 3C is terrific business, as is the fact that we have some more depth for next year in guess Tavares walks.

Hate to lose Grebs, but the retention was worth it, plus a couple of late picks thrown in as well.

Now we need a RHD too.

Dogshit uninspired move made out of desperation.

What other move did you want them to make? Like I don't understand what you want. They made a move to get a legit 3C. They are giving a pick that's 2 years away (and is top 10 protected). That draft pick would then be 5 years away from any potential impact. So you're talking Greb + a player who is at least 7 years away from NHL action, for a good two way center at 1.5 for the remainder of this season and next.

This is easily the best value trade of the trade deadline and it's not even me being a homer. Look at the rest of the prices. Not even close to being worth it. The big move you want is not available this deadline. What teams are moving quality pieces right now?

I don't know why you keep quoting me. Laughton isn't a true 3C, this is a garbage half measure. I'd rather them make no moves with these being the prices. Don't lie to yourself that Laughton is the answer.
