What other move did you want them to make? Like I don't understand what you want. They made a move to get a legit 3C. They are giving a pick that's 2 years away (and is top 10 protected). That draft pick would then be 5 years away from any potential impact. So you're talking Greb + a player who is at least 7 years away from NHL action, for a good two way center at 1.5 for the remainder of this season and next.
This is easily the best value trade of the trade deadline and it's not even me being a homer. Look at the rest of the prices. Not even close to being worth it. The big move you want is not available this deadline. What teams are moving quality pieces right now?
I think there is a question if he is 3 c.
We have done this with kerfoot and domi. He was playing wing.
Torts has had him on the wing almost the whole time he's been there and people here drink the Kool aid calling him a two way 3C LOLI think there is a question if he is 3 c.

Errrr, tell us how you really feelDogshit uninspired move made out of desperation.
Apparently a good PKer. Don't care about the 1st. That guy wouldn't be relevant for another 2 to 3 years after he is drafted. Probable late first too. By that point, whether we've won a cup or not, our window is going to be closing. Most likely starting a rebuild/retool at that point. We may have guys we can deal off for other firsts at that point, too. Cost of doing business. Grebs? Meh. Great character player, but hey...so was Danny Markov, and nobody really thinks about him as "a missed opportunity" anymore. Same deal.
I really believe many are forgetting that critical aspect - full retention is extremely expensive, usually see the market for that around what a 3rd or 4th alone? He'll become a guy who fades in the playoffs? We already have enough of that.
I don't love giving a 1st but you gotta pay if you want salary retention.
I don't hate Laughton the player. He's a decent player, but he's not really an answer to anything as he hasn't played C in years and we still have major holes that aren't really addressed.Errrr, tell us how you really feel
If this guy has the character and tenacity he is being promoted as, and I've seen him play to like him but not enough to know him; he will be a nice part of the puzzle if the Leafs move on from their anchor contracts and seek out power forwards and big D Men in the UFA offseason with $20M+ to splurge.
So are mediocre 3Cs for just a little more
I don't know why you keep quoting me. Laughton isn't a true 3C, this is a garbage half measure. I'd rather them make no moves with these being the prices. Don't lie to yourself that Laughton is the answer.
I couldn't care less about the 15% nonsense, give me more of the bolded for my bottom 6 please, especially when you're not dealing Robertson or Domi and these are offense-first players taking up 2 spots in the bottom 6.@jfreshhockey.bsky.social

Scott Laughton, acquired by TOR, is a third line net-crashing centre who plays with an edge. Crashes the net, retrieves and steals pucks, throws hits. Generally produces pretty well. Finishing touch not amazing. Production has been stable, but impact has bounced back from 23-24.View attachment 989059
I'm so beyond watching Domi, he's just not what's required to win it all, I don't care enough about him occasionally scrapping when he's a complete zilch for 20-game stretches all year long. I pity wasting Laughton at 3C being saddled by NRob and Domi - what a terrible 3rd line for playoff hockey.
If Tree doesn't shore up with another bottom 6 winger who's pure checking and defensively-responsible, I really don't think shoring up 3C with Laughton helps enough to nullify the terrible winger situation on that line.
*I suppose McMann could be there instead, which is much better, if Patches can be healthy for the POs but that's a big IF.
Matthews, marner and whomever plays net will be the answer not Laughton. Support playerI don't know why you keep quoting me. Laughton isn't a true 3C, this is a garbage half measure. I'd rather them make no moves with these being the prices. Don't lie to yourself that Laughton is the answer.
That’s a good f***ing deal.
Besides dallas colorado winnepeg florida and tampa all got better or are already betterthe fact that we keep both Minten and Cowan, i can accept this.. still a bit steep but at least he has term
I like Grebenkin's attitude, but he's a fringe 4th liner at best. The 1st rounder is 2027 will be in the bottom third and won't matter for another 5 years.
Now we need to go get a RHD.
You mean you don't prefer the bolded instead? NonsenseLaughton is a 3rd liner, but he's a legit 3rd liner. A guy that can give you 35-40 points on a bad team can only be a lock to get 40 here with better players. He isn't soft either. I hope we finally put Domi on the wing with Matthews now.
Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Robbie - Kampf/Holmberg- Nylander
I don't think I've seen a single poster call him 2-way - I'm pretty sure we're all aware he's got slightly-better -than-Kampf-level offensive ability.Torts has had him on the wing almost the whole time he's been there and people here drink the Kool aid calling him a two way 3C LOL
the leaf fan base has always loved those underdog grinder type guys. Part of the problem is the media hypes these guys upWhy is everyone so hung up on Grebenkin? He's a B prospect that may not even cut it in the NHL. We get a player that brings grit our team needs, he'll solidify our 3rd line and bring energy, and we have another year of term. With 50% retention! This is a decent deal for Brad.
No? No, they're not.
The worst thing is how many in Toronto media want them to pay Marner MORE and to re-sign JT.Besides dallas colorado winnepeg florida and tampa all got better or are already better
Leafs aint winning no cup
Shanahan tied tye leafs hands by not moving marner before his nmc kicked in wiyhout him being ectended
This is on shanny
