GDT: Latvia Vs Canada | 7:30PM | Group A - Canadian Tire Centre

There were no Phantom calls tonight, there were a few soft calls IMHO but that was a elbow to the face right in front of the ref and that was a hook to the hands (I personally would have called the dive as well) and that was too many men

Canada is extremely undisciplined and it cost them

Hahaha, you get what you deserve Team Canada, for playing politics and not selecting the best roster because some players are not playing in the canadian junior leagues.
Is that what they did? Pathetic if true

Latvia deserves all the credit in the world. They should have been DOA after the 2-1 goal but they kept their heads down and battled to tie it and then threw everything including the kitchen sink to keep that game from ending in OT.

That being said, Canada is also pathetic. They played so smugly early in the game with all the bullshit dangling and hero play they tried to do for most of the first two periods. And the less said about that shootout, the better. Cowen's, ahem "attempt" looked like the type of shit someone tries to do in the EA sports games before they realize the leg kick does approximately f*** all.

I have a feeling Latvia gets taken to town by the US tomorrow, but they earned every second of this high they're likely on right now.
That smugness?

You must also hate Jack Hughes on breakaways.

Canadian fans need to relax, you just just got “goalied”

Moneypuck probably would have the xG for Canada at 6 and Latvia 2.
Easy to get goalied when the whole plan is firing low quality perimeter shots at him the whole game.

Team Canada is a skill team that needs to cycle effectively to create shots from scoring areas. They weren't doing that at all because there were too many guys trying to play hero.

They decided to get all cute and big brained by leaving some of the best talent at home.
And they're going to be screwed even worse in the future if they continue like this after even more players will migrate to the NCAA, with the new rules.

Yea I'm noticing that, just wondering if there's actually any tea / drama behind this.

Cause watching Yakemchuk PP highlights and then looking at this Canada PP is crazy

Yeah, but shouldn't the expectation be to win a few games? Or do they just show up hoping to not get swept?
I think it's a bit of both.

Beating a team like Canada should give them that mindset now that they feel they could beat anybody. Even if they don't, this is a stepping stone for the program. A few years ago they were getting pumped. Now they are beating a hockey power. Baby steps in a macro picture.

They've medaled at the world championships before. Just because TSN keeps pretending like they've never accomplished nothing doesn't make it true. Didn't Latvia nearly beat Canada at the actual olympics too?

Yeah, hard to say how much better they would be but they definitely left some talent out due to politics. Of course they're not going to ignore you if you're a superstar player but otherwise the odds are against you.
