Harsh.
But maybe they just take after the leafs .
That's the fear.
Criticize all you want. But keep it in perspective.
20 or so pimply teenagers don't reflect the country as a whole, nor do people's reaction to them.
It's not the good ole days where athletic competition was one of the few ways people could engage with adversaries. Step into the modern world my man!
Hockey isn't that important. The sun will come up tomorrow, life will continue as normal.
Life will obviously still go on. It isn't as if we don't have mortgages or families or wives or kids or whatever. But you know, we can vent on a hockey board when we are frustrated with an embarrassing loss. It is sort of the point of these things. We can criticize the players or the coaches, life will still go on for all of us either way. Why else do we come on these boards other than to talk hockey?
Canada has NEVER started a 17yr old kid in net since 1987. That’s not a coincidence. There’s a reason for it.
But Cameron decided he’s going to re-invent the wheel this year.
Goaltending “wasn’t an issue” just like having Luca Pinelli and Cole Beaudoin in the lineup “wasn’t an issue” and not playing Sam Dickinson on the PP “wasn’t an issue” either.
It’s the cumulative effect of so many bad decisions and mismanagement by Cameron that cost Canada the win.
I am trying to think of the last time I saw a 17 year old undrafted Canadian kid in net. And I think it is Brian Finley in 1999. Not drafted, was expected to be a top 10 or even top 5 pick that year. Luongo was the goalie that year but they let Finley play in the 3rd period of that blowout quarterfinal game vs. Kazakhstan. It was 8-0 going into the 3rd and we still won 12-2. Jimmy Waite was the goalie in 1987, we all know what happened there, not his fault as he probably has a gold medal without the bench clearer. Sure came back with a vengeance in 1988 though. Finley was such a great prospect in 1999, I don't even remember why he only played 4 games in the NHL but he looked like a blue chipper.
Upon checking Waite was the first 17 year old goalie for Canada. Then Finley who played for a period but didn't start the game, and now Ivankovic. I don't get it though, he's like a 2nd round projection in 2025. We have other goalies. Even Luongo wasn't on the 1997 team.
It is the skill we left at home too. Michael Misa is on pace for a 138 point season in his draft year.
