but that's not possible? they aren't facing the weakest opponent they'll ever face in the playoffs, they're facing the 2 time defending champs. that's what made it monumental.
That could never have been possible.

Habs fan here. I think your outfit has a significant chance of doing major damage in PO’s this year! I firmly believe the D will tighten up and I also believe Soupy will too. You guys have a very exciting roster and I wish all the best! I always root for Canadian teams. Believe it or not I also am very fond of the Leafs. I know sounds convoluted like being a Yankees fan and a RedSox fan but it is what it is! Again all the best to the Leafs and their devoted fan base.
I've seen you post here before. I'm trying really hard to hate you since you're a Habs fan and everything and I've been around since the early 70s but I just can't seem to do it. I guess I'm getting old. And the roadrunner was cool too!

This is an interesting poll.

TBH I don't really know what my view is on this. As Canucks fan who lives in Toronto but is not a leaf hater I like to think I am objective on this.

Part of me says, yes Dubas, Shannahan, Coaches all go if the lose again, because how can you have so much talent and still lose in the first round.

Another part says, look at how long it took the Capitals to win a cup and how they were always coming up against Pittsburgh and losing in the first 2 rounds. Granted they got out of the first round a number of times.

I also look at the issue of the Leafs construction and I think most of their fans will agree, the issue of defense and goaltending have been an issue for a LONG time, so this is on Dubas. Yes Soups is playing well but he's a retread and who knows how he will play in the playoffs / if he can carry this team. Look at Anderson in Carolina, clearly the issue was not him.

End of the day Dubas spent the big money on Tavares vs fixing the two glaring holes on his team, D and G. He already had a ton of offensive talent and could have kept Kadri. As a result, he's made his bed. If they don't get out of the first, he is definitely gone, and since Keefe is his boy, he's gone too. I feel for them as Tampa is no cakewalk and know how to flip the switch on.

If the lose the offseason moves will be interesting as they will need to make some changes and changes that may not be easy to take for leaf fans.
You don't seem to realize that Dubas has completely rebuilt the D which is now light years ahead of what it was when he took over. Seems like you have some catching up to do.
This thread is utter and stupid nonsense. Is this forum for Leafs fans or what? Why we discuss this just before the playoffs after greatest regular season we've ever had.

Shit disturbing par excellence.
Yup. I've said it many times, no point in doing the post mortem when we don't even have a dead body yet.

Losing 4 games by 4 or 5 goals would be a monumental failure IMO. If they lose but battle like they did against the Caps, hard to blame pretty much anybody when you lose to the B2B SC champs.

As for the topic, nobody is getting fired even if they lose another first round.

If they didn't get fired after the monumental failure that was last year, what will it take??

Leaf ownership loves Dubas, even if his peers don't.

Dubas lost in the playoff qualifier round to a jackets team that had lost breadman, Bob and their #1C.

He then lost to the Habs who barely even made the PO that year.

Add on the numerous other disasters that have occurred under Kyle's watch (losing to a 40 yo emergency back up, trading Kadri for kerfoot barrie, keeping sparks over mcbackup, etc, etc.

The gm is responsible for their team. If the Leafs win the cup, dubas will get loads of praise.

But the opposite holds true. You can't lose every year in the first round / qualifier and not take heat.

My favorite was the quote from James Tanner who said "the Leafs are the victims of a results oriented business".

If Lou lam inherited a 105 point team and had zero playoff series wins after 4 years I know all the dubas fan boys would be going insane. But since it's their golden boy it's not his fault.

okay but that's silly and not going to happen.

If I were king of the world, Shanahan would go and the new president would evaluate the rest and make decisions. I don't anticipate anyone being fired though and a low probability for any major trades.

Do people choose to forget how good the Leafs were the year we played Columbus or do so to help their narrative since it is so weak?

In the Caps series they got outplayed pretty bad if I remember, I would be happier if they played like the last two years and lost instead of getting outplayed every game.

The only reason the Caps series is viewed in a somewhat positive light is because the team was so green.

I think no matter what happens, wether we go out in round 1 or win the cup, the leafs need to clear cap and allow for some of their younger players to take roles on the big team. Players like Kerfoot, Holl, Mrazek and potentially Muzzin need to be moved.

Yup they were green but they fought tooth and nail against President's trophy winner and lost 3?? games in OT. I don't recall them being outplayed every game.

Another fine example of Toronto’s obsession with the GM, would never want to hold the precious players on the field of play/ice accountable. This city is so fkn weird wrt team sports

Who builds the team? Why fire any GM ever if it's all on the players? What's weird is decades of no playoff success and most recently first round exits and some fans parade around thumping their chest

That’s okay Gary I understand, no problem I’m old too. Maybe we just mellow with age. Always defend your team! I do however mean what I say, how bout a Leafs Oilers final. That might surely annoy Mr. Bettman! Good luck from a yank in Syracuse.

And the current gm bears 0 responsibility for those decades or even recent lack of success minus the second Boston series onward. Like many others have stated many times before a gm is measured by how they build the organization as a whole not just success in the post season in a small sample size.
They have done a good job Putting the pieces in place, it’s on those pieces to execute. Last year is the only real disappointment unless you’re just dishonest and choose to lump them all together without context.
