Speculation: Larkin trade return

That guy is full of crap. I have it on good authority.

Go back to the Minny comparison. Their best center is Ek. Best. They generate offense from the wings and Hughes.

We all want a great center but that deal might just not be there. If we can get a 90 point wing like Robertson, that's a helluva good alternative.
Right but they've also won exactly nothing with that set up. And we would still need a step ladder to even reach ek tier of center to go with out centers.

I think the speed of today's game has taken some of the hitting out of the game. Guys just can't recover in time anymore. I recently re watched old Wings and Avs playoff games and guys were throwing hits and falling down all over the place. How many times have we all sighed watching Chiarot go for a big hit, and then take himself out of the play unnecessarily.
I also can not stand watching today's players get all pissy over a big hit.
maybe, but guys also don't look for them. I don't remember who it was as the guest but it was the Hull and Chase podcast. They were talking about watching the game today and they see guys circle behind the net, not looking, and doing it repeatedly. The guy said that in his day (90s) they'd notice that and make a point of sitting on it and look for that hit.

Today that guy gets called predatory and people are are taking ifty screen grabs to complain about how dirty it was and players are throwing fits about it...I think if you can put together a team of solid guys who enjoy and embrace playing hard, physical hockey that you could punch above your weight because the rest of the league is so geared away from it. The only team that I think really embraces it is Florida, and they just added to it with Tkachuk.

If it is Dallas, its...what? Robertson? Bourque? Bichsel? They don't have picks to speak of nor do I think that would be the goal of the Wings... Hemming maybe?
Dallas has all kinds of pieces that could work. Obviously theres Robertson.

But you could have Bourque Bischel Hemming Harley all in play with Larkin going the other way. If you land Harley and Bischel I would say Edvinsson is either going somewhere for a center or you have the best D in the league and hope Kasper breaks out lol

I think you're overstating Ek, but they've still pushed further than we have with what they're doing. It's not how I'd prefer to build a team, either, but it's silly to act like there isn't a path to a competitive team there.

Doesn’t mean he gets 90 pts here playing with copp compher kasper as a center. I see no chance

I wouldn't disagree with anything you have said here, nor of course, Hull's word's. I capped out athletically as a decent collegiate distance runner. I have no business refuting anyone's ideas concerning the game of hockey.

No. He got 85 pts from playing with Kane and #1 pp time. Copp had very little to do with Cat's good season.
Not really relevant in a discussion on building the team with things other than centers. Copp was still there

The center isn't the guy feeding Robertson - that guy is Raymond. We've seen proof of concept with it already with Cat/Kane. Copp isn't the guy generating offense there, but we still see Cat put up 40 goals next to him and Kane put up 50 points.

Coming up, Plante looks like an ideal helper guy to hopefully plug in across from Cat. Bear and Nygard can be the third line wings. Genborg and someone the fourth line. Then it's just finding adequate centers to plug in.

Everyone seems deadset on getting Desnoyer or whoever, but those trades might just not be there.

You gotta play the hand you have, not the hand you want.

Would I prefer to be built around elite centers? 100%. Aside from going full tank mode though, I don't see how we can do that.

Our best path is to aim for an above average group of wingers and dmen and hope Yzerman's two-way centers can old down the fort.

Really rooting for Robertson to hit the market. Think that really opens things up for a possible direct deal with Dallas or what’s more intriguing to me - setting up a 3 way deal where Dallas gets Larkin and Detroit gets a top young C prospect and other pieces.

I'd do it. Could attract a young center even(maybe not this year) to come play between Raymond/Robertson or... IF a sperate move is made for Pettersson you can argue the top lines maybe got better...
Wings have got to make moves to collect high end talent eventually or you just keep drafting and recycling bottom line players till you luck out with draft picks, and that strategy is a 4-8 year revolving door till you know what's going on... They'll never get anyone to want to come play here if they don't go get guys that are good so players will want to come play with them. They have money and have to hit a cap floor in the future anyways. Pay the guy(Robertson) 8yrs, 100 million plus like he wants. It's not gonna stop Red Wings from resigning anyone they really want anyways. 13.5 for Roberstson... or spread it out between Laughton/Roslovic/and a couple low end veteran signings...?

Roberston - Pettersson - Raymond
DeBrincat - Copp - Kane
Finnie - Compher - Kasper.
Slide Kasper to C, slot in MBN on the right-wing, and shoot Compher from a cannon Evel Knievel-style and I’m sold.

So was Kasper at times. Cat was good all year regardless who played center. It does matter when you are suggesting he did what he did because of Copp.
Sorry if you interpreted what I said as doing it because of Copp. I'm arguing he was able to do it in spite of Copp.

So, say we're luckily enough to trade for Robertson:
Debrincat gets 40 goals and 84 points next year with Copp as his center (thanks to Kane)
Robertson gets 40 goals and 90 points next year with Kasper/Compher as his center (thanks to Raymond)

Throw in some quality defense led by Seider and Edvinson and quality goaltending led by Gibson and maybe even Cossa, and baby, you got a stew going.

No I'm not overstating ek, we're jus going to be that terrible at center. We have nothing that comes close to a center capable of putting up 60 points.

Ek's done it all of twice in ten years, and I'd hazard a guess that part of the reason he did it at all were the guys playing wing next to him.

I wouldn't expect to be done having to add/change the team after getting Robertson, though. The point is that he puts the Wings on a path where contention is possible. I have way more faith in finding Ek level centers than finding one better than larkin.
