I don't even think a 3rd team would change much.

Goalies don't carry huge value so they are not going to get some massive haul worthy of Dylan Larkin by trading Wallstadt. They could trade a guy like Brodin for a package similar to what we gave up for faulk.

Hell, even if they traded both of those guys what are they getting back? a couple of mid to late 1sts and a couple meh prospects?

I don't really see any of that moving the needle in a Larkin-Wild trade unless yzerman is looking for quantity over quality.

If they want Larkin so bad they’ll have to trade Brodin, eriksson ek etc… but I don’t think those guys get the assets we’d want anyways

I don’t see Minnesota as a good trade partner period. If Larkin wants to whine for Minnesota he can come back to Detroit and be quiet

Two other bits of thought here (just speculation on my part):

Friedman reported through the whole Tkachuk thing with FL, that Staios tried very hard to get players for Tkachuk and FL wasn't budging on that so they settled on picks; I only point this out because OTT is in a similar situation in terms of where their team is, etc. Picks weren't OTT's first choice but Tkachuk's leverage forced OTTs hand here a bit. OTT doesn't want to have to wait for picks to develop into players and why the swapped those picks to ...SJ for Eklund. The point of this is we see all these "First rounds picks!". We value those picks a lot mor\e than cusp/middle of rebuild teams like OTT or DET. They would prefer players or high end prospects over picks and I think that's another thing that Stevie is probably waiting on.

SJ was/is still rumored to actively seeking a their 1D/Anchor on the blue line. I think Petes suggested that SJ inquired about Ed to DET. The issue became they had 2OA which they could score Reid, but they thought Stenberg was the clear 2nd best player in the draft so now they are kind in a weird spot where they are trying balance BOA vs. Need. If they take Stenberg, they don't need Eklund so they can swap Eklund to try to get their D. So dangling Eklund (a good 50pt 23yo winger on cost control) to try to get that D - they ended up nabbing the 9th OA from OTT who as mentioned before got a bunch of picks but wanted a player. Win Win. I say all of this in that these moves make sense in context and how they are playing out.
