I'd like to set up a poll, but I have no idea what options to choose. The Larkin talk is going to be in every thread until he's traded, so might as well make another one.

What do YOU a) think we'll get for Larkin and b) feel like we HAVE to get for Larkin?

  • Return focused on future assets?
  • Return focused on roster player(s)?
I'm having a hard time coming to grips on the idea of rebuilding 2.0 since it's so hard to get players in general. This has already been a ripple effect, not loving the concept of losing DeBrincat as well.

I stole this from @Frk It , but maybe Hischier?
I’m guessing Larkin has some kind of relationship or friendship with the Hughes brothers, being they are all from Michigan and Dylan and Jack just won a Gold together.

Could be a good swap for both parties potentially, IMO.

We have the money to pay Hischier, and they get back Larkin on a pretty good contract.

Anaheim wanted Anton Johansson a couple of years ago. I think a package of Larkin, Antjo and Cossa could feasibly return McTavish, Mcqueen and Stolberg. Gives both teams something they need. Anaheim only loses one roster player, who is disgruntled anyway, and gets a top end 2c to go with their playoff caliber roster. Detroit gets two young center prospects and MBNs buddy

Why would the Red Wings want Hischier again? To keep finishing just outside the playoffs?

Any deal with Larkin has to be for prospects and picks.
Seems like the right call but Raymond, Seider and a lot of players are in their prime right now. Would suck to burn Seider’s best years waiting on prospects.

It has to be at least one top end prospect that is NHL ready. I have no interest in trading a prospect that is three years away from maybe being something.
Why would anyone trade a top end prospect that is NHL ready for Larkin?

The only team I could have seen doing something like this may have been Pittsburgh if Malkin didn’t announce he was coming back.

I'm confused, why wouldn't they? If there is a team that thinks Larkin gets them to another level, I'm guessing they'd rather have the 30+ goal scoring 70 point center than a kid that won't help them enough in the short term.

Are you talking about blue chip prospects that are NHL ready?

I don’t see why a team moves those guys for someone like Larkin.

Outside of teams that are desperately in win-now mode like Pittsburgh.

Teams like San Jose or Anaheim have all the time in the world with the ages of their cores.

The most important question this brings up is are they going to look to make a hockey trade or just trade him for futures?

I think that’s going to largely depend on if Steve is going to remain at the helm, or they plan on bringing someone else in.

I could see Steve wanting to make a hockey trade. I think they go the futures route if they want to embrace being bad, and then bring someone else in to deal with what comes with that. Don’t think we know the answer to that just yet.

Minnesota should be all over him. But I don't know who Detroit would want that they'd be willing to move.

Depending how the EP40 saga unfolds, I could see Holland in LA chasing him as well.

I'll re-phrase, I want to get a Josh Doan type of player. I'm not talking about a Misa or someone like that. Just someone that will actually be on the team this year or next at the latest.

I'm worried that we're going to see the trade and it's going to be a "that's it?" type of reaction. Which is more than likely.

Larkin's leverage here is his NTC, allowing him to force his way to a desired destination. Detroit's leverage is the term remaining on Larkin's contract - i.e. allowing Detroit to simply do nothing and force Larkin to widen his list until Detroit gets the return it wants. The leaks today were almost certainly from Larkin's camp in an attempt at making a return to Detroit next season untenable - therefore compelling Detroit to trade Larkin this summer to his preferred destination.

Larkin won't want any team trading for him to subtract key pieces from the roster. Which is why the best hope are picks, top prospects, and maybe a bad contract with no term left to make the salary cap work.

I hope I'm wrong, but I'm also in the camp that thinks the NTC is going to make the return pretty underwhelming. Think maybe a little better than what the Wings traded to get DeBrincat.

I think this is good time to clear out the front office. Let a new GM trade Larkin, DeBrincat, Faulk, Gibson and Copp and try to get back some assets that might help in 2-3 years.
