Rumor: Larkin requests trade

If that's the case.....Does Cat sign a contract extension this summer?
I would say this depends on what we're able to between now and free agency. If our return for Larkin is a good one (assuming a GM approaches Stevie with an offer that meets his expectations), ADB may sign on for more.

40-goal scorers don't grow on trees. We need to do everything we can to keep him. The "three year re-rebuild plan" isn't gonna cut it.

After 7 years it’s still Ken’s fault. Ok Mrs Yzerman.

*spits also
Yeah, that’s definitely the point I was making. And Yzerman definitely hasn’t improved the team at all starting from the pits of hell. He definitely hasn’t gotten them competitive despite being dealt a poison diarrhea hand. They weren’t one of the top teams in the league until the Olympics break this year. They haven’t been on brink of playoffs in an incredibly competitive conference the last couple years.

If you’re too dense to not see the objective progress that’s been made, again, with no lottery luck, and having to start from the ashes of abysmal generational decay, that’s your delusion. No where did I say Yzerman was perfect, but Yzerman has done a lot to get this team going in the right direction and his draft picks have actually been turning out solid relative to non-message board delusional expectations.

He’s absolutely made some confounding moves as well. I wish he’d done more “splash” moves at times too.

But Yzerman has absolutely and objectively by any measure got a once-sinking ship going in a far better direction than it was going when he took over, again, with no lottery luck, a city and losing culture no one wanted to come to, and essentially having to start from scratch with no chips to deal.

He doesn’t deserve an endless rope even if his name is Yzerman and he’s the GM in Detroit, but to dismiss the progress relative to acknowledging what he was dealt is simply an absurd position to defend, especially on the day the whiny little disappearing act cried to the media again.

Two years in a row this team was well on their way to the playoffs until their little captain pooped his diaper and cried about it on the sidelines. You build your team around trash leadership, that’s what you get.

I already said it, Yzerman’s worst move thus far is likely that he didn’t trade this clown to fully reset the culture years ago. Some of us have been ringing that bell for years. But again, to suggest that it was such an easy task relative to the broader situation isn’t a serious take.

But yeah, blame Yzerman for everything. Expect miracles and instant turnarounds in a 32 team league. Makes sense.

Please put down the pipe. I didnt realize that MBN, Cossa, ASP, Plante and Augustine were all terrible. I didnt realize that Debrincat was terrible. I'm sure all of those assets that Ottawa received for him have put them over the top...Gibson, also terrible. Kane signing, terrible. Yzermans team, with its .561 pts % this year is worse than Hollands last team with its .451 %. Sure sure....

We are going to get a decent package for Larkin. He doesnt have to be moved. Do you really think that he wont accept almost anywhere else now that everyone knows what a bitch he is and when the C gets put on Mo? Yzerman will not be bullied here. Captain Charmin is not going to have the upper hand in this situation whatsoever.
Its been 7 full years of the Yzerplan, and those are the moves/picks that you are using to argue he hasn't been awful... That just shows how bad he's been.

Even if this rumor wasn't true, theirs no coming back from all this hate towards him now lol Vegas is going to win the f*ckin cup too.. things can't get any worse!

I honestly don't understand all the nasty comments and hate.

First off, most of these "fans" have been clamoring to remove larkin from the team for years.

Secondly, larkin has endured as much hate as marner over the last 10 years.

Thirdly, he has given everything to this franchise and they have failed to build a real good team around him.

I don't blame him, and I wish him well. I hope he wins a cup elsewhere

Why would you hope any player that's not in a Wings Jersey to Win a Cup? (I personally hate every Team that's not the Wings)

After 7 years you can’t blame the guy before. 7 years is plenty of time to have corrected course and fixed things.

Exhibit A being Montreal.

I mean if there’s no statute of limitations on responsibility, let’s blame Jimmy Skinner in the 70s. Surely some of this current situation rests on him and what he left Ted Lindsay and then Develano to work with, et al.

Good grief.

What's the point of hating teams while the team is putrid and not competing with anyone? Don't get me wrong there's fan bases I never want to experience happiness but there's a been a few teams that I've been happy to see win since we went to shit.

I mean, outside of top 6 overall picks, Yzerman's picks have been absolutely terrible. We're talking amongst worst drafting in the league terrible. His trades have been absolutely terrible, his rosters have been terrible, he's had 3 coaches in 7 years, thats terrible. Free agency? You guessed it, terrible. Holland had a streak of 25 years in the playoffs that for better or worse, he was trying to extend. Yzerman had free rein to rebuild the team and somehow, it's further from a cup than Hollands team. Being kind is saying this rebuild has been an absolute failure. Being realistic is saying this is the worst rebuild since the lockout, and Yzerman has brought Detroit down to a bottom 3 franchise in the league. We're now the laughing stock of the league
Holland’s success disappeared when he couldn’t buy success with Illitch’s checkbook. Get your history straight. His success died when he had to deal with the cap and sign his lucky draft picks to their real deals.

Yzerman’s free agency moves and lack thereof absolutely his most questionable area. No arguments there.

His drafting? Again, look at where he’s having to play from. Relative to what he’s working with and what’s reasonable to expect, I’m not upset at this point.

Coaches? Really?

What do you really expect when you’re starting from the absolute bottom of the barrel with no chips to play with, a reputation for not paying guys their “worth,” a 25-year playoff hangover, etc…….what really was in his control to dramatically alter that path that he hasn’t done? Again, are we not a far better team than we were in 2019 when he took over? Were we not skating with the best teams in the league for 2/3 of this season?

Again, I’m not saying it’s been perfect at all, but let’s be serious about what reasonable options Yzerman had at his disposal over the last seven years.

No way; unless he just like playing here because of family, and some guys are like that.

I think he's following Larkin out the door this summer, midseason/TDL.

The ripple effect of Larkin demanding out is no one wants to play here unless they have to. I woulnd't expect a Kane resigning. I wouldn't expect a good UFA unless it's a multi-year/multi million dollar overpay for even guys like Mccaron/Greer.

Simon Edvinsson might sign a small bridge deal to become a UFA so he can leave vs sign something long-term. This is bad, unless the trade looks good which. idk.
Good points here...

As a Wings fan I've been looking at this like 'well it was nice knowing ya DBoss - don't let the door hit ya in a ass on the way out'...But now - as you pointed out - could potentially be a bad look for the club if Larkin comes across as a saint and Yzerman/McLellan as the bad guys who are tough to play for.

Agreed, enjoying watching my new local team have a hell of a run this year. Root for them any night they’re not playing Wings.

But Larkin whined, flopped, and then spit in our faces. He can rot.

What fans are saying is irrelevant. We literally have nothing else at center and it looks like his picks at center won't work out in the top 6. This is way more catastrophic for Yzerman.
Again, I disagree. Yzerman was hamstrung with Larkin's petulance combined with his diminishing value. Will Detroit take a step back next year? Yes, it is petty much certain to happen.

But sometimes you need to take one step backward to take several steps forward. Outside of the few Larkin Stans who are very vocal on this sub-forum, no one is calling Larkin a great leader or irreplaceable. What they are saying is he should return good value given how much demand there is across the league for 2Cs.
