Rumor: Larkin requests trade

Dreger has also said it doesnt sound like he just wants to go somewhere he can win. So this isnt necessarily just a force yourself to one or two contenders next season type situation. If he wants out, hes going to have to be open to several teams.

I think lots of teams hes goingt o be interested in are going to offer solid packages anyways.

I really dont see it with Minnesota unless they use Wallstedt to acquire a young center of some kind to be included. Habs, Ducks, Sharks, Hawks, maybe Bruins all have assets that could make it happen

Wow - from the sounds of this it could get a bit ugly.
Dreger: the suggestion that Larkin has asked out years ago is probably a stretch.

I also kinda love that Dylan requested a trade but is now miffed that word got out. Sorry guy, you are everything most of us suspected when it comes to leadership. I hope you land on your feet and we get a good return. 🫡

I honestly don't understand all the nasty comments and hate.

First off, most of these "fans" have been clamoring to remove larkin from the team for years.

Secondly, larkin has endured as much hate as marner over the last 10 years.

Thirdly, he has given everything to this franchise and they have failed to build a real good team around him.

I don't blame him, and I wish him well. I hope he wins a cup elsewhere
Are you doing a KD on here? Are you Larkin?

Do you think he's tossing some fuel on to the fire and/or making things up?

I'm curious - taking into consideration I do not recall any rumors swirling about DBoss wanting out.
I have gotten the sense Dreger is connected with Calgary but doesn't really know much beyond that organization.

The one comment that was most interesting was that Larkin and his representatives were upset this was leaked. That seems pretty easy to get info on, so that suggests it was leaked by Detroit which is something Yzerman never does. It makes sense for Detroit to leak, they want to get the best return possible. It may also suggest they are fed up with Larkin at this point.

I just don't know that Dreger has much inside info here from Detroit's perspective, he compared Yzerman to Lou Lamoriello as far as keeping things buttoned up.

Any chance we get media availability from Yzerman or anyone soon on this? Yzerman absolutely loves answering questions these days.
The best you can hope for is post-free agency, as he always does. I'm sure there will be no shortage of questions queued up about Larkin, and I'm sure he'll have an opening statement where he says his peace and tells HSJ "there will be no encore".

Yeah - sorta odd - says Yzerman runs a pretty tight ship and next to Lou he won't mention a thing - then suggests he was the leak - so which is it

When a quote comes from Larkin or his agent, then you can believe it. Bunch of hoopla for now. I know hes not going anywhere, based off what I know, but thats too much for some to handle in here. IYKYK. Enjoy the afternoon with this "ALMOST" story. Woof.

What are you on about? It is being reported all over the place by people who actually know people.

I really think it all goes back to McLellan being named coach. McLellan has been in this league for a long time and he knows what leadership looks like and what it takes to win. Press conferences with Yzerman are worthless unless he brings the Toddfather with him, who has no problems telling you what is up.

My sense of how the past year or so played out.
  1. McLellan named coach, team rebounds.
  2. Team shits the bed in March as they always do.
  3. McLellan gives Larkin some hard truths.
  4. Larkin whines to the media about not adding to the team.
  5. Yzerman adds Gibson and Faulk.
  6. Team shits the bed once again.
  7. Yzerman to Larkin: WTF?
  8. Larkin whines and points fingers.
  9. Yzerman likely tells him there will be a changes in team leadership and he's selling off the pieces he acquired to support Larkin.
  10. Larkin requests a trade.
Regardless, I am looking forward to going in a new direction.

I legit don't know how to feel about this news.

On one hand I am fine trading Larkin, but on the other I think this means DeBrincat likely doesn't want to stay here now, which means a good number more years of rebuilding and missing the playoffs and nothing great to watch on the ice.

I was fine with trading for trade deadline improvements, but if the rumours of Steve knowing about this for awhile are true, then I think it was not a good thing to attempt. That said, it could be that some of his friends forcing moves and then doing well soon after may have pushed him to go for a trade now.

The hate on Dylan is indeed ridiculous when most of us have known his entire career minus his rookie season, that most seasons the team was not even close to being called good, and he was a good not great center, Expecting a good not great player to lead what has been mostly a bad team his whole career including the past 2-3 seasons is pretty silly. He was always going to need way more help then that. Even if it was McDavid it would have been a tall task. McDavid hasn't even won in Edmonton with another future HOF'er with him, so even here while we would be better, it would still be a tall task for us to be awesome.

Post game presser with Todd after that 8-1 loss looked as though his head was about to explode...Now granted this isn't entirely on Larkin here, but as 'C' he needs the guys to step it up and it wasn't getting done (along with the moodiness etc).

Not surprised that he wants out - just surprised that there weren't any rumors leading up to this getting 'leaked'.

Because hes pur captain and im not petty. I wish him success, since hes been handcuffed here most of his career
If he was our Captain he'd retire as a Wing and have 71 hanging at LCA! You don't give up when things get hard. Him and Yzerman must of had some bad fight to get to this point. It took Steve Yzerman 14 Years from the time he was drafted to win his first Stanley Cup.

While you're not wrong, but Steve had a much better supporting cast.

Since Larkin has a no trade clause and he asked for the trade, I think his list of teams is going to be somewhat bigger, which should give Yzerman some options to get something decent in return. Ideally, I'd like a swap for another center, Thomas, Hischeir, Barzal, etc. We will see.

Been waiting for a decent trade since Yzerman got here - see if he can actually trade Larkin, betting he goes on vacation and tries to do something before season starts, he just seems to have no real concern on making this team better. My guess is we'll hear all about how difficult trades are...

To be fair to Larkin, he was given the night off for that game. But I'm sure McLellan has said lots of stuff that aggrieved Larkin.

'Empty Jerseys' I feel was a sizeable shot taken at the players (including Larkin) that never woke them up...It's a shame that things have to go this way, but I'm glad they're being addressed.

I'm eagerly anticipating what will become of this summer off season!

He'll never have his number hanging regardless. And yzerman at least had a good team around him and was making the playoffs consistently for 7 years before they won
