Lane Hutson Rookie season

After realizing the talent he has, the only surprise for me is that he has gotten better in games 60-80 than he was in games 0-20. He hasn't hit any rookie wall which most rookies do. Given his stature, I thought for sure his play would regress like most rookies, but not even close

He started visibly slowing down before Xmas, before 4 nations, and even right now I'm noticing it as well. That extra break for the 4N helped him out.

Kid is going to get abused in the playoffs if the Habs end up not blowing it. Gonna be a whole new world for him.
The entire Habs team is going to be abused. They have Alex Newhook in their top 6 and Mike Matheson playing 25 minutes. Montreal even making the playoffs is like a Stanley Cup for this team. Suzuki is a horse but it's clear even he's running on fumes, and probably injured.

Amazing how good this guy is, and I feel like he is being somewhat overlooked.

And this is coming from a Sabres fan.

Mental gymnastics. You did the exact same thing. You got caught being a hypocrite - take the L and move on.
It's no surprise that one who dabbles in hyperbole would consider basic reading comprehension as mental gymnastics.

Just because "voters should watch the games to be the most informed" and "I don't like your opinion so you don't watch the games " both contain the phrase watch the games, doesn't mean those phrases were used in the same way.
Kinda like how minute (time) and minute (small) are spelled the same but have different meanings (and pronunciations too!).

Sorry if those gymnastics were too advanced for you, but the OG point stands - your "you must not watch the games" bit is tired.
The venn diagram of those that don’t watch habs games and those that say Hutson is bad defensively is 100% overlap.

For a rookie defenseman being relied on to create as much offence as he does, Hutson has been outstanding defensively (and of course offensively)since the 4n break

This can be quantified via the eye test, simple counting stats, and advanced stats.

It’s not up for debate
True or not, that poster's flippant dismissal of criticism with the same response is childish and not in the spirit of good discussion.

That's not up for debate

It’s not a reading comprehension issue at all. You just think it’s a different thing when you do it vs when someone else does because you’re biased. It’s as simple as that. Textbook cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy.

I’m trying to remember if Isles fans created new threads every day when Barzal made it to #5 on this list in his rookie year.

He is, quite possibly, the best d-man I've ever seen play the game. Looking forward to him shutting down the Caps in Round 1.
I loved prime Karlsson and defended him when a lot of non Ottawa fans didn't. I honestly think Hutson can be better.

It’s a lot easier for a little guy to have a big motor due to physiology and he avoids a lot of physical contact so it’s really not surprising he has gotten better with more experience considering.

Easily. EK was at one point considered the #2 or #3 player in the league and carried his team of scrubs to one win away from the Cup finals.

I'm anticipating Hutson doing something similar as early as this year. The difference as well is Hutson is a phenomenal player in his own zone.

Yup EK was easily one of the best players in the world before his career was derailed by Matt Cooke. Even after he was damn good and instrumental in the sens ECF drive. As a hockey fan, I can appreciate great players even if they play on teams I am really indifferent about, like the Sens. But he wasn't nearly as good as Hutson is when he was 20/21 and a second year player in the league.

You make a good point. I anticipate him making his mark in Round 1 and shutting down the Caps.

Makar is better defensively and has a far more lethal shot. He's arguably the most impactful player in the NHL. That's probably why people don't think Hutson will be as good.
It's OK buddy, come to the sound of my voice
Nobody wants to see you get hurt. Its pretty high up on that ledge

He now has 9th most assists for a rookie ever.

I'm curious why some people still think he won't be as good as Makar. Makar had like 0.86ppg rookie season and Hutson is at 0.8 ppg.

He puts up almost as many assists as a defenseman as the generational talent Crosby did during his rookie year. And now he even surpassed Mario. This is crazy.

Passing the puck to Sazuki is hard.

Great point - in this case, cognitive dissonance would be if i actually held contrasting opinions about the same thing. But, as evidenced, I don't - you just misinterpreted when you attempted to ctl+F cherry pick posts I made. A valiant try (as was using these big psychology words), but alas, a miss.

It appears as though you're on the mat and ready to use the rings, but everyone else is competing on the pommel horse.

Not even close. His insinuations were very clear. He also uses the “If you watch the games, …” comment as a passive aggressive little jab to insinuate other people haven’t watched. It’s throughout his profile.

Rationalizing and making excuses for when he does it, but reducing the other person’s position strictly to the words themselves while ignoring any and all context and nuance is called bias. Not surprised it’s you defending it either.

From what I can tell he's talking about voters, not about people here. That's a pretty significant difference. One is disdain for the media, which is pretty commonplace. The other is an ad hominem against HFBoards posters.

It is clearly cognitive dissonance: you tried to take the moral high ground about people accusing others of not watching the games, but you’re guilty of it yourself, repeatedly. You are now trying to rationalize your hypocrisy by claiming it was different when you did it. Your response is classic, literally by the book lmao.
