His NHL edge skating stats are insane considering his speed was always in question.

He's 95th percentile top speed and 96th for 20-22mph bursts (and 99th for 18-20mph).

For reference, those are similar numbers as Quinn Hughes this year (a bit better actually) and to his usual numbers. Hughes has a way better shot however, though he's improved it significantly every year since his draft year. It's still impressive to see that Hutson now has high end to elite speed.

I think Mesar's future like Mailloux will be with another team. I expect them to be traded at some point. I tink they'll both be valuable enough to get good vets for them to help the team compete. They'll return more than Barron imo specially Mesar if he has a good year in the AHL.

If Dach doesn't work Hage will eventually replace him or we'll try to acquire a vet. If Laine doesn't work out Dach could evetually be moved to wing to repace him. When Gallagher's and Anderson's contract will end one will likely be replaced by another vet and the other maybe by Tuch or Davidson. I don't see a spot for Mesar tbh. And i did not even consider us signing Evans because i'm really not sure we will if KH believes in Back.

In your reality I keep armia as that bottom 6 vet. I agree Mesar might be good one day but won't get that chance to reach his full potential here I don't think.

No. They were just plain lucky he was still there. Like Caufield few years before. Lack of size was the main reason in both cases. As for Mesar, I will never understand what they saw in him that as so special.

I'm not sure they valued Hutson higher than Mesar and Beck. I think if they did they would have taken him 26th or 33rd.

They obviously knew what they were doing though. It’s easy now to sit here and second guess everyone else now that Hutson’s a star. But he was a 5’7 gamble. The Habs had to be thinking that he’d get passed over- which he did.

I’m just saying the habs drafted their players in their order of preference. They didn’t flip the order based on the hope he’d still be around at 62.

It wouldn't shock me to find out that a most teams were prepared to used a later round pick on him, just to see if he hit. Habs were the only ones willing to use a pick that high on him, and that's why they have him now.

I see a lot of angst about Mesar, and my only thoughts on that matter is that it wouldn't surprise me to see Mesar make the NHL in a couple years as a solid 3rd line player who can chip in some scoring and also kill penalties. Whether that's with the Habs or another franchise remains to be seen.

He's had a few breakaways and fast slot incursions already. He's quite above average.

Now that we have recorded measurements like this, we don't have to rely on the eye test anymore. Subjective opinions aren't required when we data that demonstrates that he is indeed fast.

We knew he was good but it's been a real sight to behold to see him actively change a lot of our offense

No offense to Matheson but a lot of his points during that 60 season were empty calories, freebies off the PP's and being overused
Lane's production tho, is actually *impacting* the game in a favorable way for us, just overtaking entire shifts sometimes, it's uncanny

I disagree. Lately I've noticed he's been flying, which is why I went on NHL edge. They're objective measurements, it doesn't rely on the eye test, but on the actual numbers. Not only do they say he's fast, but they also say he's actually elite.
