Prospect Info: Lane Hutson Part 2

Their size and skills levels may be roughly comparable, but Hughes is a much, much more dynamic skater. It will be Hutson’s lack of elite skating ability that will hold him back at the NHL level more than his lack of size.

The game is graviting towards bigger mobile defensemen. It gives a team more intangibles. Physical on finesse opposing forwards, takes away passing lanes, win more puck battles down low.

No doubt Hutson will take a ton of abuse. Especially in long physical playoff series. As teams no doubt run him. I am not sure how it proves out. I think he most success in regular season.

Really? If anything I think it’s the opposite. Guys like Hughes and Makkar aren’t exactly big guys. The game has less obstruction than it used to and it’s a much faster game.

Size will always be important but speed and puck movement is more important than ever. I don’t think a guy like Quentin Hughes would’ve even been given a chance back in the day. He’d have been written off for being too small.
 
I think we should trade for Jared Spurgeon and put the following on the ice all at the same time:

I remember back in the days, it took few years to realize that NHL teams could use a guy like Visnovsky or Zidlicky. They were 24/26 when they arrived to North America and they made first teams straight from the training camps.
Hutson has some elite skills, but he is still extremely skinny. He needs to bulk up around 20 lbs, otherwise it would get very painful for him.

This lineup reminds me of my Nintendo team all skinny fast guys.

Wore 81 and 85 at dev camp. … that could be because Mesar had 48.

Safe to say this was a successful tournament for the kid. The future is bright.
 
I hope most habs fans watched this tournament. While he was expected to lead the USA offensively from the blueline, he was clearly asked to dial it back and take no risks. He was played every game 25 mins plus and lead Team USA on TOI every game, culminating with 25:12 and 27:20 in the semifinals and gold medal game in back to back nights. He was on PK #1 and PP #1 for the USA.

He showed anyone who hasn't been watching Boston U how much he has improved other areas of his game. He is now trusted by his coaches with shutdown assignments against the top players on the other team.
