Hutson, voted on the All-Star team for the WJC, played 25+ minutes in the semi-finals and 27+ minutes the Gold medal game!

Carle, his coach, praised Hutson beyond his 6 assists in 7 games:

« Il contrôle le rythme du match en étant autant sur la glace. Sa prise de décisions avec et sans la rondelle ont un impact profond sur le match. J'ai trouvé qu'il a exceptionnellement bien contrôlé le jeu (ce soir) », a mentionné Carle, sans surprise élogieux à son égard.

Essentially, the coach explained why he gave Hutson so many minutes, suggesting that the diminutive D can actually control the pace of the game when he plays that many minutes.

Carle underlined the quality of Hutson's decisions with and without the puck and the impact it has on games that he plays.

The head coach pointed out that Hutson controlled the play exceptionally in the Gold medal game.

Combined with earlier comments from Carle, those close to Hutson appear to consider that his D-game is coming along quite well and that the diminutive D's ability to win individual battles for the pucks is less and less of a concern.

I'm not sure if that is enough to change the negative narrative about Hudson's size and his D-game, but maybe fans should perhaps consider that the youngster is still evolving in those aspects of his game, while continuing to put up points on the scoreboard?

Even if we can say that the tournament exposed somes weaknesses in defense and show that others offensive dmen from his own corp got similars assets, the global event demonstrated that he can at least quickly find adjustments to adapt to the context and has tools to compensate what he doesnt add yet, which others didnt made.

Solid journey!

One things for sure at least to me he continues to show why he's the Habs top prospect and it's not close. The average age in the NCAA is over 21, so he's had to face bigger, stronger, players and yet his production of 68 points in 54 games is outstanding.

Just really hope he can bulk up a good bit this off-season as 160 is a major concern but I am not betting against him despite Farrell and Roy showing that you really need high end skating, speed when undersized at the NHL/AHL level.

Definitely looking forward to this kid jumping on board with the Habs!!
His weight is a bit of an issue, but look at Hughes in Vancouver, not much heavier...and we are watching how that is turning out.

Hughes is now 5'10 180lbs but during his last NCAA season he was listed 5'10 175.

Lane is listed right now at 5'10 162 by both Boston U and USA National team.

its really not that big of a difference to make up.

It’s a lot like Subban. Tries to do too much and loses the puck - sometimes in spectacular ways.

The big difference between Subban and Hutson though was that Subban had a physical game and could actually clear the crease when needed. That’ll always be a limitation.

But he’s not useless defensively as some have suggested he is.
I often mentioned it too that he was streaky like Subban, but hutson has more awareness, subban focused more on force than his consistency
