No he doesn't. He has solid traits. He's not elite at anything.

Lane Hutson has elite traits. Breaking records at the college level. Something Struble could never dream of.

Point is, Hutson's value is probably higher. I'm not trading top prospects just for fun. I want a great return.

I think Hutson's value is at its peak. Whereas I think Struble's value will continue to rise.

A lot of people are penciling in Hutson to be on the future first wave PP, but given that he's a slow skater isn't there a risk that the other teams will score a lot of shorthanded goals?

Personally, if forced to protect Hutson or Struble in a expansion draft, I would protect Struble.

The Habs' will definitely lose a D if there's an expansion in 2027 or 2028. Or they can trade a first to the other team to take a forward.

Struble will win you more cups than a player like Markov.

Markov was not that valuable in the playoffs, because you don't win cups on the powerplay when Refs lose their whistle.

And Markov was great 5-on-5 at the NHL level (at least in the RS), something which is still a big "?" in Hutson's case.

A top forward prospect. 1st line upside.
Someone else who saw Markov as poor in playoffs. My man!

Great, let's draft more of them.

Probably higher? That's an understatement.

Keep the elite guy and trade the solid guy to make room for the elite guy.
How about trade neither? :)

But I wholeheartedly agree with your argument about not trading away elite talent. Hutson takes over games the way few players can. At the level he’s at he’s absolutely elite.

The real question is if his game translates to the NHL. I think it will. He needs to put on some muscle but that’s not hard to do. 20 lbs over the next couple of years is very doable.

Hutson’s the most exciting prospect we’ve had since Caufield. It’s be crazy to trade him away. Now if someone offers Cellebrini or something like that… different story. It’d never happen but if it did, it’d be too good to pass up.

But the idea of us giving away our 10th, Hutson and Beck for Cellebrini? No freaking way.

I wouldn’t call him slow. I think his skating concerns are overblown. And he’s amazingly deceptive. That’s his strength.

We can lose Trudeau, Wifi or some other dude.

I’m sure we’ll trade away D for forward soon enough. But that shouldn’t include Hutson unless it’s something over the top.

He was poor in the playoffs. But he certainly helped get you there.

That would be dumb.

There is no reason to believe that Hutson will ever be half as good as Struble defensively and we don't even know if his offence will translate yet either. I am still on board with trading Hutson if the right offer comes in and building our D with fast physical puckmovers who are made for playoff hockey and we just happen to be developing a pile of them right now.

I am all on board with betting on his upside.

PPG defenseman should look exactly like he is in the NCAA. Its a guess if his offense will translate or not but the mistake is to not bet on it. Why would we trade such a prospect? What would be the right offer?

We won't trade Hutson, no player with that much potential has ever been traded before playing in the NHL. Yes it's only potential (there's so much question marks), but it's immense.

Ok, It's always a possible concern with every playmaking D on any PP ever,
But does our PP currently look better with one of the fastest skaters in the NHL..?

It would be interesting to have an understanding of what Hutson’s current market value is. The only way I would consider trading him, would be for a high-end C prospect.

I wonder if Dallas would interested? Stankoven would be a great add, but even then I would be in the fence.

WHY??? Why add another small forward with the habs?

Normally I would agree with you, but Stankoven is a very solid prospect with high end potential IMO, and he’s ready to make the jump.

Also bare in mind, while Hutson is a very good player, but he has his issues, so no one is going to trade you a perfect player in exchange.

I also said I would be on the fence, so it’s not like I’m hung up on getting Stankoven, but do believe Dallas needs LHD.
