It's why I fully expect Coach Q to be the next Rangers HC
I forgot all about him, which there was already heavy talk of him and the Rangers before Lavi was hired. I believe that was before the league said he could come back, which they’ve now said can.

Paul Maurice could've resigned from Florida and came to Detroit, and I'm sure mouth breathers like this and the rest of the YDS crowd would say shit like this.
Did you say mouth breather before Stranger Things?

They’re just judging based on their experience/thoughts. Plenty thought Florida was dumb for hiring Maurice, AND for firing Brunette, but it obviously worked for us. May work as well for Detroit, could’ve pretty bad, we’ll see.

I am a middle aged man, I have never seen Stranger Things.

And yes, I'm sure that's what most folks are doing, but I'd wager to say 90% of the rest are just getting in the threads to talk about how stupid Yzerman is.

Is hiring McLellan a calculated risk? Absolutely. Could it get any worse than where this team was headed under Lalonde? Absolutely not.

Best case scenario, this team pulls a 2009 Penguins and wins the Cup under the new coach.

Worst case, this team continues to spiral and we pick top 5.

Actually I think either of those are best case.

Well yeah it is two statements.

And the stats dont back up that McLellan coached teams do this, at least not compared to other teams.
I don’t need stats. I watched it unfold before my eyes for 5 miserable years. If you’re a wings fan, you’re about to find out. Good luck.

Is that a real question? Detroit let Lalonde have his Christmas even though he should have been let go weeks ago, if not months.
It's got to be a relief for Lalonde. It's not like he wouldn't have known the Sword of Damocles has been hanging over his head. Getting fired is part of the job.

Why did Yzerman hire Lalonde in the first place?

Why not? Winning 2 cups as an assistant, he was due a shot as a head coach, and SY was familiar with him being his GM in Tampa.

In hindsight, he did reasonably well with the roster. But this season team was trending in the wrong direction, so it was time to change things up.
