Really curious who were the Kings trying to outbid?
For the Kings, to fit PLD they had to move money. Kings are cap strapped and will be for another few years.

This trade can make sense if the Kings worry that QB will not be ready, or even able to replace Kopitar. They must feel that PLD will be able to fill that role better than anyone on the current roster.

How soon because Kopitar is still a better player than PLD!

At 36, you would think there should be a big decline happening each year. You can take a look at the historical stats of 35+ players to come to that conclusion. This is obvious knowledge.

Until his injury PLD was on pace for 90 points last year as a 24 year old #1C. He only missed 9 games but played hurt the rest of the season.
Staying healthy is a skill. Dubois has never cracked 70 points. As well, Vilardi paced for 30 goals playing 15 minutes a night. I'm all in favour of the Kings doing this, honestly.

It's not an extension. he doesn't have a contract right now. The Jets would be signing him under their cap today.
It is an extension- he is under contract until June 30th. The extention would start July 1 when Jets have 12M in space plus can be over by 10% or 8m in offseason- thats 20m

As an Oilers fan, I don't get this for LA. The guys going away were such a pain to play against. I would not make that trade if I was LA
totally agree. LAs offense was noticeably more dangerous when Vilardi came back, and Iafallo seems to have our number too

but I felt like Vilardi made a pretty huge impact immediately on his return

Don’t be surprised if he hit 20g in a top 9 role with 15ish min of TOI
Kupari won't displace Lowry as the 3rd line C and had better not be in the top 6. He'll likely be in the same 4th line role as he was in LA.
