Then all y'all should have ducked out of the threads when informed that deal wouldn't cut it. Instead it was 100s of posts of justifications and "you'll see's"
Now we're have to live with lifetimes of regret that we participated.

Perhaps in 20 years, we'll have a Truth and Reconciliation commission where Hab HF fans admit their wrongdoing over the Pierre-Luc Dubois trade proposals and offer restitution to impacted Winnipeg Jets HF fans.

What sort of restitution? Hard to say, although I will probably ask for a stickied thread within the Montreal forums to archive all the evil-doing that certain Hab fans have perpetuated on the Trade Forums.

This entire thing is very easy to summarize:

- Dubois only wanted a couple of markets, which included LA and Montreal. He would have signed 8 years with either.
- LA could offer present, Montreal futures.
- Winnipeg took the present.

This entire trade was decided by what direction they wanted to take.

That's it.
nailed it.
What is crazy to me is that given Winnipeg wanted present players that really left LA competing with itself and the Jets still got max value

That is some solid logic you have going there. Hughes wanted him so bad that he made a crappy offer. Totally makes sense pal, you are really on to something here, keep on this!

Smarter than the idiots running the Jets.

Saw in the Montreal Gazette that Newhook could potentially be a star player. Just wasn't getting enough ice time in Colorado.
Well there are 2 choices:

1. Sakic is an idiot
2. Bednar is incompetent at development

I go with #2.

I would not be surprised if Dubois plays on the wing, especially with Kopitar.
A lot depends on the development of the younger players and how good Kopitar will be next season

If that happens, unless there are mitigating circumstances like Byfield turning into a 90 point prime Kopitar, it will be a disaster for the Kings.

Anyone with a brain can see the Jets should have rebuilt, not added 2nd/3rd liners for Dubois. Of course ownership may have not allowed that.

And with regard to Newhook either Sakic screwed up making the pick or his coach impeded his development.

#3. Sakic is a good GM because he recognizes mistakes and moves on

You want to say the Jets should be rebuilding...

Newsflash man, what do you think trading a 1st and a 2nd for other teams struggling former high picks is? It's rushing the rebuild to try and make it shorter. Your GM is taking shortcuts.

You paid a cheaper price to make the same mistake a lot of you guys think Dubois would have been. Giving up futures to speed up the timeline

Teams need cost controlled players contributing to the lineup. That teams are willing to let them go for the price paid should be a cause for concern.

could be what works best for chemistry. Could see at least in a rotational basis.

I don’t disagree with you but if that’s the situation that means we traded a higher scoring winger for over double half the cap hit and unloaded a bunch of other useful guys as cap dumps and resources to pay for those dumps. That’s a disaster for the org.

Now, here and there, if we make a line like this (plus Kempe) for a specific hockey matchup, say, against Draisaitl/McDavid at LA home games, that’s something else altogether.

shortcuts? I don't see it that way. Just building a team lol didn't know there was only one way to do it.

Would you say Dach was taking shortcuts too?

Could be bad could be good going to withhold judgement on that till i see it. I could see it gong down the way you have outlined too.

yeah semantics lol taking shortcuts as in trying to rush/force things, cut corners, etc
It’s taking shortcuts to trade for 21 years old players in development, not near their peak yet don’t you know?! It’s definitely the same as trading for vets to help win now! :sarcasm:

Max value?

This deal is basically the same as what Rick Nash returned. A bunch of 2nd / 3rd line players and a pick.

You'd rather have Vilardi and Iafallo making 8 mil than PLD making 8 mil?
I would.

Kings will likely dress 21 players to be cap compliant. At least they'd have a full 23-man roster and see if Vilardi continues to grow before unceremoniously trading him away for a slight, albeit marginal, upgrade on offense.
