Not sure why there are so many "X team won this trade" posts

In a perfect world, both teams benefit

Jets add forward depth and two young assets with team control

LA adds a 6'2 220lb power center who skates well, plays with grit and has good hands signed on a decent contract through his prime years

As a Jets fan, I'm happy with the return but would have been equally happy had PLD extended here with that contract

Hopefully this is a win-win trade

Massive over simplification and not even accurate based on the players point production.

6 seasons:

302pts
434 games

57pts over 82 games.
45% on faceoffs

His production does not go up in the playoffs either.

I honestly think LA did fine here…I see lots of parallels to the ROR to Buffalo deal, which at the time I thought was a win for the Avs. Very talented, disgruntled younger centre….for a talented prospect with high upside but real uncertainties who the deal ultimately hinges on (Vilardi/Zadorov), decent young player/prospect (Lafollo/Compher), mediocre youngster who likely doesn’t amount to much (Kupari/Grigorenko), and a pick (2nd rounder/31 overall). If Buffalo hadn’t messed everything else in that rebuild up they would have come out of that deal looking great.

I see lots of quantity in this deal for Winnipeg. They’re relying on Vilardi turning into something.
Interesting comparison.

Quebecers,

Who would you rather have right now

A) PLD

or

B)Alex Newhook

?
LOL...............what a stupid post.
Habs have more fans outside of Quebec than inside Quebec.

As for your question, habs were never going to give up 3 players, plus a second for Dubois.
Jets win their deal big time.

Habs will be happy with Newhook.
Thx

Wouldn't take him for "free" with that contract. What a haul for WPG

Where's all the Habs homers saying he's coming home now? Lol

Hope PLD stays happy in LA for 8 years. He comes across as a very high maintenance hard to please forward.

There is likely a very good reason why Torterella didn't like him in Columbus.

Have you looked at the career highs of the players coming back?

Vialrdi -41(once)
Kupari - 15
Iafallo - 43 ( 4 years ago, when he was 25 yo...those days are likely in rear view mirror)

Meanwhile, PLD has scored 60 or more points 3 times. He is not a perfect, but he is a far better player, playing a more important position, than any of the other three players.
8.5 for 8 years for 63 points yah smart deal.

It's not massive. It's the cost of a top six center at his age.
With this contract, PLD is the 33rd highest paid forward in the entire league. There are not even 20 centers paid more than he is.

This contract is massive for a player whose development has stalled and who is infamous for acting like a boy when things aren't going his way.

we're snickering along with Jets fans at the trade return and contract. Blake intended on making the bidding war a shit throwing contest and Hughes simply noped out.

Price for Lindholm just went up haha
No, Blake always over pays.

This is the guy that thought it was better to acquire Phaneuf than put Gaborik on LTIR. He bought him out the next summer.

This is the guy that had to promise Kovalchuk a 3rd year to sign here. He was then kicked off the team within 2 months and bought out.

This is the guy that celebrated having the top prospect pool in the league. He then dismantled it within 2 years. Drafted 6 consecutive centers in the first round, none of which are centers in the NHL.

This is the guy that brought in vet after vet to push those prospects down and into other positions while reducing their trade value, ruining morale in Ontario and suppressing his own asset list.

He traded his 1st round pick in tomorrow's draft for two UFAs he couldn't afford to sign, so he ends up somehow RETAINING $2 million for Provorov in a deal to sign Gavrikov - who only wanted a 2 year deal.

This is the guy who has never won a playoff series as GM. The team itself has only won 6 playoff games in 9 years.

Copley saves their season past year, then is told that he isn't the starter for the playoffs - and now he is somehow the only NHL goalie on the roster and apparently good enough to be the starter again.

His team can't win a board battle to save their lives, gets bullied on the regular, can't kill penalties and can't hold leads. Now they are capped out and can't address any of those holes.

This is the softest team in the league, and easy first round fodder next year.

Eventually folks outside of LA who only look at the skilled players on the roster will learn that Rob Blake is the worst GM in the league.

At least for me, it’s mostly about contract.

That’s not a contract you give out to someone that you (should) have some doubts about who has been far from an offensive dynamo even at his best.
Frankly, if it wasn't for him getting injured last season he'd have been in line for $9.5 million a season rather than $8.5. This will turn out to be a very solid contract. Rememeber this is for PLD at age 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31 and 32. That's baiscaly his prime years and based on what he did as a 23 and 24 year old he'll be a point per game player over much of that time.
