The Kings have one right handed forward remaining on the roster (Arvidsson), not including any potential rookies who are certainly not a sure thing. Just an example of Blake’s awful roster construction.

This seems like a terrible trade for the King's but I have never liked PLD - guys goes missing for seasons.

Seems like a big win for the Jets considering the lack of leverage.

Quebecers,

Who would you rather have right now

A) PLD

or

B)Alex Newhook

?
Neither.

I like Dubois but he is a 7.5M player at best. Here, he is getting overpaid, on top of all the red flags about his attitude.

I'm going to keep an open mind on Newhook. I don't doubt that a change of coach could work out. But I'd rather use the 31st and 37th pick.

That’s why I would have preferred Elias Lindholm.

I’m curious if the LA lifestyle will effect PLDs already low work ethic. This trade all depends on how Villardi and Dubois play for their new teams. Iafollo is a dime a dozen bitten sicker but Kuoari has some potential.
dude has given up on two teams now. Hes not a player you want on a long term deal for any sort of big money.

So the Habs waited it out and got the local-ish kid for free.

Oh wait. Not a bad trade. Not sure the Kings gave up much.

Vilardi is the base but he was a nothing player until this past season. Iafallo is a replaceable try hard 3rd liner. Solid player but his skill set and overall package can be acquired in several ways use UFA or low cost trades. The other guy is just one one the many disappointing 1st round picks from the lousy 2018 draft (after the top 10 picks).

Dubois will easily get 70 + mpre points while Newhook will finish on a 3rd line with 35 points and no physical impact.

I honestly think LA did fine here…I see lots of parallels to the ROR to Buffalo deal, which at the time I thought was a win for the Avs. Very talented, disgruntled younger centre….for a talented prospect with high upside but real uncertainties who the deal ultimately hinges on (Vilardi/Zadorov), decent young player/prospect (Lafollo/Compher), mediocre youngster who likely doesn’t amount to much (Kupari/Grigorenko), and a pick (2nd rounder/31 overall). If Buffalo hadn’t messed everything else in that rebuild up they would have come out of that deal looking great.

I see lots of quantity in this deal for Winnipeg. They’re relying on Vilardi turning into something.

Makes sense for LA. Vilardi to my knowledge is not a natural center.

PLD gives them depth down the middle and he will serve as a replacement to Kopitar when he retires.

Extends their competitive window. Without this trade, once Kopitar is done LA has a huge problem.

This keep em in the mix for a very long time. Helps them transition away from Kopitar and Doughty to PLD and Clarke.

LA should be a good team for the next 8+ years. I like the trade.

Dubois' attitude is fine. He's become the scapegoat but there's been a mass exodus from Winnipeg including their former coach and captain and Columbus was a long time ago and it's Columbus.

He's chosen his destination, I think he's going to be more excited to play there than he has anywhere he's played.

I think had there been other players requesting out of Columbus and Winnipeg you could point to a bigger issue, but really it's only PLD. To me that doesn't look great on his attitude.

LA still gets better out of this deal, but that contract is a huge risk.

Don't understand the fuss around PLD. Seems like a very meh 2C.
He's big. He can lean on you in the playoffs, so they're banking on that sort of impact that he had in the bubble vs Toronto. He's just not usually that player. They better hope they can further develop his game - but playing under Bowness didn't turn him into a genuine two way player.

I think this thread will be as entertaining to look back on as the Tkachuck trade last year.

I don't think LA won.. but I definitely think the PLD beat out JP!

I remember when my Oil got JP and I was ecstatic! He may be on a PTO next season or a 1 year/1 mill type contract while PLD is making 8.5.

Put another way... PLD may make more next year then JP will for the rest of his career!
