Busting quickly like Dach LOL ?

Yes like Dach but worse, Sakic knows what he is doing, not a good sign he gave up on Newhook this soon.

Add that to the fact that Newhook already fell on draft day....

All signs pointing to bust.

Montreal: “We can’t get PLD? No problem! We’ll severely overpay for Alex NewJost!”

LA: “Hahaha! We’re adding your 2nd round pick because we think it’s hilarious and DOUBLE overpay for PLD!”

Colorado and Winnipeg, while shaking hands: “Check out these f***ing idiots. Hahaha”
How the hell are basically 2 second round picks over payment. If history tells us anything they'll never amount to anything!! Truth!!

In terms of winning versus losing the trade:

It's not a zero sum game.

Jet had to move Dubois since we only had 1 year of control, Dubois was not resigning and a deal had to be done before July 1. To return four good pieces was a job very well done. Most pieces are young and when you combine that with some very promising prospects, we should have good upside in years to come, while still having some pieces to compete now.

For the Kings, they are knocking on the door, having been eliminated in the first round two years in a row. Young players were not going to push them to the next level. A playoff-style center, who is also the best player (currently) in the deal actually does improve LA.

That said, if LA is serious about pushing, they need a goalie.

BTW, we have Hellebuyck available.

*stares intently at Byfield... and maybe three other pieces*

LA got fleeced all for the privilege of signing a guy to a longterm bloated contract.

Contract will look better as the cap goes up I guess.

Ignoring the hype of the players and looking only at results... This seems like a very underwhelming return IMO. I'm not particularly high on either young players, pretty much 3 middle sixers for PLD.

I feel that Winnipeg could've gotten a better return.

Have you looked at the career highs of the players coming back?

Vialrdi -41(once)
Kupari - 15
Iafallo - 43 ( 4 years ago, when he was 25 yo...those days are likely in rear view mirror)

Meanwhile, PLD has scored 60 or more points 3 times. He is not a perfect player, but he is a far better player, playing a more important position, than any of the other three players.
Yep, correct. We have to rely on our three new forwards being improvements over what we would otherwise have had - and given that out forward depth was already looking quite thin, guys like Iafallo and possibly Kupari should be valuable for us.

As for Vilardi, he's our shot. It was pretty clear that with Scheifele and Dubois on the way out and literally zero viable replacements in sight, Chevy needed to take a shot or two this summer to find a replacement. While Vilardi might be a long-term winger, he will get a look as a center. Not ideal, but this isn't an ideal situation in the first place.

Jets did great picking up 2 guys with a shot at being 2Cs.

LA knows what it needs and they got a real good 2C in PLD.

I'm very glad the Habs didn't "win" PLD, just not where we are right now and we have no extra young Cs to give up.

We said we would never pay he market value.
Now that's a formula for "success" if I ever heard one. What, you actually want to play on this ******* team? I guess we will take you, but no way we are ever going to pay you fair market value! Take this lousy contract offer or go play somewhere else where you can win and contend, it's your choice!

Surprised we didn't close the speculation thread and begin anew.

Not a bluechip prospect in the return, paying PLD a premium for a guy who hasn't broken 70 points... seems there is a bunch for both fanbases to not like about this.
I think the jets really like this return

Chevy played Montreal like a fiddle. Try to play Chevy and u get Newhook as consolation lol

School is in everyone

lol I doubt Hughes was ever really in it. He's not a sucker. And the Habs didn't have any roster players to give. He probably offered Dvorak and a few prospects and that's it. I doubt they were THAT interested.
