Just so, so many "if"s

Which PLD do we get and for how long
Can my little sister teach him how to win a faceoff
Does he lay down now that he has a retirement contract
What do I drink when Vilardi outscores PLD
Did Rob Blake have to run out and catch the high tide

He may finally get to a point per game but being in Winnipegs 1st PP and playing a lot with Connor and Scheifele still couldn’t get him there.
He wasn't far off and he's still young and capable of improving. Fiala seems like a great complement to PLD's skillset too.

Only legit gripe Kings fans should have is that this takes them out of the running for Matthews, Draisaitl and McDavid but who knows if any of them even make it to UFA. Otherwise turning three dime a dozen players into a 25 year old 1C locked up for the rest of his prime at a reasonable cap hit is a tidy bit of business.

It's going to be fun to look back on this thread when Dubois scores 80 points next season while Vilardi's 19% shooting regresses hard and Kupari is playing for the Moose.
I don't realistically think any of those things will happen.

PLD is definitely a good player, don't get me wrong. When he's "on", he's almost like Eric Lindros lite. Problem is, he's not always "on".

Look at who he was playing with in Winnipeg. Connor, Ehlers, Perfetti, Wheeler. Not exactly slouches. And he topped out at 63 points.

Geez, the Kings got ransacked for a guy with a career high 63 points
Have you looked at the career highs of the players coming back?

Vialrdi -41(once)
Kupari - 15
Iafallo - 43 ( 4 years ago, when he was 25 yo...those days are likely in rear view mirror)

Meanwhile, PLD has scored 60 or more points 3 times. He is not a perfect, but he is a far better player, playing a more important position, than any of the other three players.

Surprised we didn't close the speculation thread and begin anew.

Not a bluechip prospect in the return, paying PLD a premium for a guy who hasn't broken 70 points... seems there is a bunch for both fanbases to not like about this.

I like this for the Jets as everyone knew that the Jets had to move PLD and they've turned him into a young forward with upside, a decent 3rd line winger we can use, a depth winger that we can give an opportunity to on the 4th, and a 2nd.

But LA is getting a good player too. A young player that can play C (we are just hoping GV can transition to C), and we know how coveted C's are. The extension may not look like a bargain now, but when the cap goes up and the next wave of contracts go out, I think it will be more than fine. And from a cap perspective, a guy like AI was a contract they likely needed to move anyway.

It's not just shooting % either. Vilardi spent last year playing W against sheltered competition, he's only 1 year younger than PLD and still isn't a full time C in the NHL. He'll probabaly need to play C for the Jets but don't expect much out of him offensivaly because it'll be a big step up for him in terms of both responsibility and compitition.
