LAK trades Bendan Lemieux to PHI for Zack MacEwen

I mean... Flyers fans here seem happy to get rid of him. Not sure what to make of it.
He's an enforcer. Nobody likes enforcers. They are the most hated guys in all the game by both the opposing and home fanbases  They take penalties, don't produce well, and are part of the ugly side of the game that gets argued over ad nauseum. Then they retire with mental problems for the rest of their lives... :(

Still, I am glad the Kings have one now at least. I loved Lemieux and obviously, he soured a bit this year, but he was always a middle-weight scrapper/agitator with a hint of skill. He was a mild deterrent but he was no heavyweight enforcer.

The only annoyance that I have with the trade is we had to include a pick. I feel like the deal should have been one for one.
Traded with Columbus, traded with Philadelphia. Pretty sure you're right.
Seriously. Our Columbus streak is at stake!

This is a good deal, MacEwen is more competent than meets the stat sheet. He is much bigger and a safer option than Lemieux. Changes the dynamic of the 4th line for the better, if only by a small margin.

Guessing this means Kupari will be back in Ontario?

I will admit this trade makes no sense, unless there's another trade and Blake needed more cap room to make the trade.

Their legacy is basically interchangeable. But you know, nuances and details.

And now we care about legacy. Same reason DL had to keep Richards after looking deep into his sexy eyes in that cabin. He's Mike goddamn Richards, canon, and made this franchise a true contender. He had to be kept in June 2014. It was the right move for the right guy.

Anyone remember last year MacEwen had a really strong game vs the Kings? He was a wrecking ball.
I havent noticed him at all in the Flyers games Ive caught this year but maybe he can put it together. There is not much expectation.

Um.

What?
Haha :P I mean that they are always someone that both fanbases complain about on a regular basis. Referees watch them like a hawk and don't give them the benefit of the doubt based on reputation, and they typically lack the same skill as the average player and historically don't have the best skating on the team. When playing against smaller/skilled players this leads them to get called often for minor penalties on top of the fighting majors they are due to rack up.

This leads to every fan praying they don't go to the box and cost the team a goal every time they step onto the ice. Not to mention many fans are what have you done for me lately stat fiends who look at a guy like Lemieux and ask why are they wasting a roster spot for a guy with 3 points in 27 games while ignoring their intangibles...

Sure, they are going to get love from the Johnny Utah's of the world, but because of this they get a lot less love from the fanbase overall that just about any other player. Which I am not saying is right...

On a more serious note @All The Kings Men are you able to comment on this trade?
It seemingly makes no sense other than adding cap space.
Did they see something in Mac Ewen?

I think it is pretty black and white. Blake literally said he was aiming to add toughness.

I've not once said Quick should be traded. You're doing an awful lot of flip-flopping in your arguing while looking down on people who may have changed their mind about how they wanted Quick handled.

Yeah, but wouldn't it be better to add toughness with a guy who will actually play? I wouldn't put him in over anyone currently on the ice. If Grundy was out, maybe.

With Moore coming back it's going to be one less spot as well.

As much as I loved Lemieux he was bad this year - what happened to the Lemieux-Lizotte-Kayilev line?

He was a UFA anyways.

McEwen is bigger and can fight the heavies and actually been more effective this year as a player.
