MacEwen is simply a more competent hockey player. It was a good trade.

MacEwen is actually a fairly boring player. He moves up and down the ice, keeps things simple, uses his size to grind but doesn't look to throw massive hits. He will drop the gloves because it needs to be done, doesn't go out of his way to look for it. You can count on that every night.
Lemieux has been unplayable this year. Just a net negative who can't be trusted to do a job for 8 minutes a game without compromising the team. He played well last year, just never came close to that this year.
Its a positive deal. I think folks forget the value of low event players who can give you a solid forecheck without risk. Every team needs that. Its not sexy, but it's reliable.

Got it. Lemieux gone def is addition by subtraction - i said in another post the refs were out to cancel him... he had to go. I was hoping for bigger move, like a tough 3C w good faceoff skills.

haha yeah that shift where he flung the puck on net was a consummate "sort of NHL player" shift but yeah, effort on every shift can't be argued. certainly could for lemieux
