Nobody is buying Peterson out this summer with that cap hit. If you take him on, you're taking on at least one year past this one before buying him out. If the Kings are willing to pay and/or retain, I'd take him on the Sharks. We need to move Reimer this deadline and will likely need a body in net next year with Kahkonen.

He was inconsistent but honestly wasn't terrible until he signed his contract. I mean, there were enough signs to not sign him to such a deal, so this one is definitely around Blake's neck, but he had a good showing at the World Championship and did play decently with the Kings before. He had some leverage in negotiations and the Kings were willing to bet on at least giving him three years to see he could take the spot, but he has just been a complete disaster since.

In the end, the immense pressure to take over for Quick and be the bonafide #1 of the team just mentally obliterated him. There really is no other reason or description for his performance. He hasn't been good at all, but you can literally see the mental devastation in his eyes when he is out on the ice. He looks like a guy that doesn't believe he could stop anything and wills it into existence. He has the physical attributes and the capability of being a decent goaltender, but I don't think there is any way to save his mental state at the moment. Maybe something happens in the minors that helps him find his way back, but I think his mind is toast.

He is a weird case in that he has all the tools, but is the most visibly defeated goaltender I've ever seen.

No one is picking up a bad 5 million dollar goalie with two more years in front of him.
Edmonton?
It's more of an attempt to shake him up. Since he signed the new contract, he has immediately and progressively gotten deeper into some kind of mental issue with confidence -- continuing the path would only further the exponential trajectory he's on. He really should go on a 10 meditation retreat or something (or a 3-5g mushroom trip with a guide/therapist).
Mushrooms lol. Growing up some of my friends had wild trips. But for me if they ever worked....about 50/50. All they ever did for me was slight giggles and increase my ability to consume alcohol.

Interesting -- must have been low dosages because I couldn't imagine wanting to drink alcohol on a strong trip. Or you've got Viking DNA ;)

Yep exactly my thought. Throw us a 1st+Petersen and we will give Reimer. Huge upgrade for LA. I’d be surprised if LA would give up another first though. I’d also accept a 2nd+prospect+Petersen or a good prospect straight up.

Kings defense is putrid and Quick didn't look much better last night, but right now pucks are just going through Petersen. Campbell trade jokes aside, the body language very much reminded me of Campbell last year when things were going badly. Pucks were just going right through him.

I think this is a player lacking confidence. If he had a reasonable caphit, a team with strong fundamentals defensively and a decent goaltending department has a good reclamation project here. If he is bought out he is getting another deal right away from another team.

The weirdest thing is that he seemed mentally unflappable and carried the Kings to notable amount of strong performances before the contract.

It's amazing what this starter "pressure" has done to him. However I believe he can be salvaged as a solid 1B with some sports psychology help and AHL re-seasoning.

So many tens of millions wasted on this D corps and goalie. The organization could have set up two pylons in the dots and a large sieve in the crease and received the same results.

They could have fixed their goalie troubles if they stopped being so cheap and unwilling to pony up any prospects. Instead they hold onto their prospects like Turcotte, Madden, Anderson-Dolan, Fagemo maybe even Byfield until they become busts and no one wants them anymore.
