He had league average stats in 2020-21. .911 and 2.89 is solid. Not 5 mil solid, but an ok 1B

Did he just forget how to play hockey?

Doubt he gets claimed, only a few teams have the cap space to do it and they probably don't have motivation. Could see him getting a stint in the AHL to work things out. Or maybe he's the type to respond to being waived.

I'm reminded of Anaheim waiving Adam Henrique a couple years ago when he got off to a slow start (4 points in 16 games to start 2020-21). He cleared then produced at his normal rates to finish the season (17 points in 29 games) and has been decent since (54 points in 80 games).

I was confused by the contract when it was signed, and it’s definitely not aged well. It sticks out like a sore thumb considering how good most of their contracts are otherwise

He put those numbers up because of the team; Quick strongly outplayed him even last year despite similar numbers.

This season, yeah, he's basically completely forgotten how to play hockey. It's the closest thing to the yips that I've ever seen from a Kings goalie.

Im more shocked he has a 5M cap hit. His agent deserves props for that.
It was a weird situation where Cal had most of the leverage. He was being blocked by Campbell initially, and his contract expiry status was UFA so he could have just gone to the market. His numbers (analytically and box stat-wise) were great on some bad Kings teams, but it was less than ~70 games total if I remember. It was bad any way you slice it, but it wasn't like he got $5M/season as a pending RFA with no leverage.
