Quick was left unprotected for Seattle. Many thought he was done but he salvaged his career a bit last year. It sucks but hopefully the two coming back can contribute in the immediate and who knows maybe the long run too.

Forever grateful to Quickie. It sucks it went down this way but Blake would have been roasted by fans if Quick/Copley blew down the stretch too. Quick just seems off. Playing deep, bad angles, and wide open nets. He looked dejected the last couple months. Super competitive guy. Best Kings goalie ever.

Other team fans want their gms to do anything to make the playoffs or to give them a better chance to make it far in the playoffs.

Meanwhile some LA fans don't want that. They want to go to the playoffs with a worse team.

Kings should give up and tank for the season then and let another team and fanbase that actually want playoff hockey to get in.

Quick I'm guessing got most of the money owed to him this season already. He could have went "hey I want to retire a LA king" and done so weeks ago. He didn't though and got traded to make LA better.

If Quick still thinks he's a Starter in this league still then that's on him, Just like Brodeur thinking he was still a starter and decided to fail miserably with the blues instead of retiring as a Devil.

Are you implying that 0.876% SV and 3.50 GAA Jonathan Quick in 2023 actually makes the Kings a better team?

Let's play a game! Which one is Cal Petersen and which one is Joonas Korpisalo?

Career:

Past two seasons:

Why don't we play the same game but actually use relevant data (ie this year's stats). Which one is Cal and which one is Korpi.

Player A: 9GS, 3.75 GAA, .868 sv%, 5-3-2 record playing for a good defensive team currently tied for the division lead
Player B: 26GS, 3.17GAA, .913 sv% 11-11-3 playing for a terrible defensive team who is literally the worst team in the league

Oops I gave too many hints didn't I. Wow wasn't that fun

No one's saying that. Korpisalo is a better goaltender than Quick this season and gives LA a better chance to win.

But this is a really dumb trade for a relatively smart, conservative GM and it just so happens to throw LA's greatest goaltender of all time under the bus with two months left of a 10 year contract. Again, why now? Blake knew that G and LD were issues heading into the season. Why not try to address this over summer, and with players likely to stay long term? We gave up a first anyway, why not add another and go get Chychrun instead? If Gavrikov and Korpisalo walk after this season, then what the f*** was this all for?

If people think that JQ can turn back the clock like Benjamin button and play like he did in 2014 (christ im getting old), i want what they are having (and this is coming from a Kings fan)

Kings did Quick dirty. I imagine Anze and Drew are f***en pissed!
He sucks now. If he were playing games for them in the playoffs, the Kings might as well forfeit and save themselves the time.

Korpisalo is the most impactful part of this trade. He's been competent on an atrocious CBJ team.

Gavrikov can help by bumping Walker from the lineup. Good on Blake for making the tough but correct decision.

I'm saying that being mad because you are sentimental when the GM is making the team better with the trade is wrong on so many levels.

All we were asking was to turn back the clock to May 2022

Sadly the Kings wouldn't get a game changer in a trade involving Quick unless he was a throw in on a deal involving multiple picks and prospects. They needed a 3/4 LHD and a goalie that can play better than Quick because they can't ride Copley the rest of the way. Emotionally as a Kings fan it sucks to see Quick traded away in this fashion but take the emotions out as it's a deal that helps the Kings be a better team down the stretch.
Oh I totally agree, and these guys should make LAK better. If they we’re getting a really good player and needed to move a big salary to make it work I would totally understand, but Gavrikov and Korpisalo are both UFAs to be and aren’t owed big money and I think they could have made it work without jettisoning Quick into the hinterlands.

Edit: It would be close, but I think they could have made it work just by waiving Quick and “assigning” him to the AHL while letting him still hang out and work with the team

Quick is 2 different players in the RS and PS going to even last year. There is nothing to indicate Korpisalo is a better fit for the playoffs than him and Gavrikov is not some amazing 1D, just a more of a solid mid pairing puck sponge.

Team comraderie and morale is extremely important in any competitive team environment, from pro sports to the military to executive performers. Ignoring it for marginally better NHL2023 stats is incredibly naive and asinine and something you expect from a 14 year old with no life experience as part of a high performing team (or I guess Rob Blake who has always been an extremely me first player). Many teams have been sunk with tone deaf moves like this before.

There's still time for it to not happen

The holdup being Quick telling Jarmo, "Make it a 3team deal as Im gonna park it in LA until you flip me to a playoff team. K? Thx bye."

Poor guy made almost 60 Million US dollars in his career from LA

Some of you are crying over a grown man who has been set up for generations and has been treated great by LA.

Oh my god he is going to go away for 20 some games. He will be back and retire as a King.
