i really disagree

GAA is a garbage stat

S% is pretty much the most legit stat for a goalie

shots, how many saves can you make? some are easy, some come straight on, some are deflected

a shot is a shot, a save is a save, i don't get how that is BS

you can't disagree that Quick was in terrible form last year up to beginning of this year

and now he's in BEAST MODE, he's stopping those same deflected pucks that a few months ago you'd blame the D for the goal!

so S% is legit

Sv% is highly dependent on your team giving up at least 25-30 shots per game to reach the league average of .920. The average NHL goalie gives up 2.00 GAA per game.

When Quick faces over 25 shots in a game, he has over a .928 SV for his CAREER.

Think about that for a second.

It's quite simple an NHL goalie will allow on average right around 2 goals a night. It doesn't matter if they face 20 or 40 shots. That is just the facts. So if you are a goalie in a system that only allows 20 shots on net you will have a lower save %.

We were actually insanely dominant, but good systems play and coaching on the Leafs and our inability to finish kept it close and intense. Leafs are good, no shame in admitting that, but nice to get the result that was deserved. Reimer had a hell of a game as did Quick.

Nice to see Carter back but gonna take a minute to get a rhythm.

If we get THAT version of Vinny, what a beast 4th line C.

If we get THAT version of Schenn, it's Matt Greene with a slightly better puck touch, just as advertised.

Still dunno how we can't draw blatant calls, but taking stupid penalties in retaliation nearly cost us.

Quick just stat padding now, he's in tip top form lately.

I thought the same thing. Doughty crosschecked and go after that dick, then Lewis gets an elbow to the head at the bench and slashes back.

It was a good game, missed a lot ops to really pull away with a bigger lead.

Man, lets just say it.

**** save %
in general, **** any stat for goalies.
Its the most rediculous thing when you see threads and ranking goalies simply based on save %. Shots vary so god damn much, and goalies respond differently to work load. The only judgement to pass on a goalie is to watch them.
ANY stat taken in a vacuum is one small part that should only be taken as a small recommendation for or against tbh. Stats are just an attempt to come up with math to represent a very complex situation, and as such they generally fail. Combine enough and you will start to get a picture, but really only by looking at all the stats available AND WATCHING can you even start to get a picture.

Lecavalier: "This team is not all over the place when they play."

Shots fired. **** you, Philly.

One mainboard thread is on how dirty the Kings are, the other is on how clean the Leafs are.

Both are draining my IQ.
I had to tap out. Same usual suspects who always **** on our team are there like clockwork. So much ****posting on the main boards.

To what should be no one's surprise Sutter goes with

Kopitar
Carter
Lewis
Lecavalier

down the middle.

on avg 2 goals yes

but is there data that shows that goalies getting 30 + shots on goal average around 2 goals? meaning, is there data out there that would exclude all those 20 shot games?

Solid début from the new guys. Schenn was very solid and having him out there cut down Doughty's minutes to 26. Low for Drew, lately. A little pep in Vinny's step and nice to have a 4th line center who can puck protect and handle with that kind of size to make a play.

Someone already did the data work, it's on the main board titled.

Quick is an Elite goalie.

The poster took all of Quick's games when he faced over 25+ shots and found that Quick's SV% was god like.

Which it should be, cause on average, Quick gives up about 2 goals a game.

So by logic, his SV% is going to be quite bad on average, facing only 15 to 18 shots a night. There is room for career years there like 2012. But over the average, Goalies that face low shot counts, have bad SV% no matter who is in net.

Martin Brodeur had some below average SV% seasons, due to the devils team in front of him.

Satisfying win. Toronto looked good when they got desparate, but our system isn't as strong against a more open game like it was towards the end. VL looked motivated and made some good plays. A couple times he tended to fly by the play, but I think that's just his excitement, or I hope. Schenn looked nervous at first, but got better as the game went along. Both players looked great for being thrown into a game with a new system, without any practice. I like how Sutter us putting a lot of trust in these guys. Both of them need a confidence boost, and I think they got that tonight.

Damn dirty Kings! Which part was dirty tonight, the retaliation on the cheapshot the Leafs took or the fact that we don't take crap when guys take liberties?
