On top of those needs they need to trade 2 RHD, one of Moore, AI and Arvidsson, and at least one of of JAD, Grundstrom, Lizotte and Kupari.

Also let’s not forget Fagemo will likely be in the mix for a forward spot.

Gavrikov is still hanging out in LA.

We may have to move Iafallo, but we shouldn't "want" to get rid of him.

The Kings have to compete using depth, and Iafallo is a solid middle six forward.

This team has proven not to be able to compete in a Playoff scenario, especially the middle six.
Considering Iafallo and Moore are overpaid by 2 mill, it's an easy decision.

What's wrong with Grundstrom?
He is cheap, a great player and should have Iafallo's spot.

Kupari is also a great young playmaking center who should play top 6 , you don't trade players like that away

Guys Toronto Fans seem pretty certain that if Matthews is leaving he is going to LA. They believe money is one major factor for him, but the other is (I'm not quite sure how phrase it but let's call it) star culture. Celebrity appeal? Whichever, Toronto fans believe he enjoys hanging around with Bieber and as Bieber spends most of his time in LA, Matthews may enjoy the idea of hanging out with him and a much larger quantity of other celebrities more frequently.

I suppose the only issues here are:

(1) he extends in Toronto(which for some reason it just kind of feels like his time there is coming to end)

(2 - I would imagine this one may be the bigger issue of the two.)

Obviously, Celebrity Appeal can only be fulfilled by a limited number of locations in the US. Everyone knows them, but just to finish the thought the cities are obviously NYC and LA.

Assuming Matthews prefers the climate of LA(Sunny, Beaches, warm temps) LA gets an advantage. However, beating out NYC may not be the biggest obstacle if it is known Matthews already has a geographic preference.

The biggest obstacle would obviously have to be the kings are not the only team in the LA area. The ducks could also potentially fill the same "celebrity appeal" need Matthews may be looking for.

So I guess the question I am posing here is, assuming Matthews is out of Toronto after next season(during or maybe before next season if his intentions to leave are confirmed this summer) how do you ensure Matthews goes to kings and the ducks do not get Bedard(assuming they win the Lottery) and Matthews?

The Ducks have a tight budget and I don't see them opening the checkbook for Matthews.

If Matthews wanted the climate and LA used their cap space to attract Matthews, then Matthews' best bet would be LA.

Here's the structure of Mathew's current contract:

15.2M Bonus + 700K Salary = 15.9M
15.2M Bonus + 700K Salary = 15.9M
9.72M Bonus + 750K Salary = 10.47M
7.2M Bonus + 750K Salary = 7.95M
7.2M Bonus + 775K Salary = 7.975M

CAP HIT = 11.6M

30.4M in bonuses in the first two years. Dude got PAID. Almost all his money was paid out as bonuses.

Deal was structured so he'd get to UFA status as early as possible.

He's about the money. He's probably not going to be worth his cap hit it would require to sign him.

What year will people stop trying to bring back Clifford and Simmonds, who are not NHL players anymore?
Probably after the players die, since people will still talk about "the possibility" of a player coming out of retirement.

And even after death, I'm expecting a seance where they'd ask the spirits to possess the soul of Quinton Byfield or some other player.

Signing Matthews to a 7 or 8-year high cap deal would be a big mistake for this franchise, but it would be so BLuc.

Of course it is. But I would also imagine that Blake would want to bring back Kopitar, as well.

Some pieces will need to be moved to make room for Matthews at $10 and Kopitar at like $5.5. But if Blake can make it work, he will. He doesn’t know how to make his own star forwards. So he’ll just buy one and the Kings will be a black hole team until the early 2030s.

I agree - the Kings either need youth to start contributing or start a new rebuild. Signing Matthews is not the right move for the franchise.
Main issue with this year is depth scoring and size for the playoffs. Their a regular season team not built for the playoffs imo.
