Speculation: LA Kings Offseason Thread

There's no way you can re-sign Gavrikov without giving something else up to make the cap space.

This is why trading a 1st for him was such a dumbass move. Even if you re-sign him, his roster impact is partially negated by losing someone else.

Or you have to throw your 2024 1st in the trashcan to get someone to take on Petersen's contract.

We didn''t we got him . Joonas Korpisalo,-G and got rid of quick contract so stop

Goaltenders the Kings should try to sign (not necessarily in order):
- Laurent Brossoit
- Semyon Varlamov
- Tristan Jarry
- MacKenzie Blackwood
- Korpisalo (meh)
- Adin Hill

LHD the Kings should try to sign (again, no particular order):
- Ryan Graves
- Carson Soucy
- Brian Dumoulin
- Vladdy Gavrikov
- Niko Mikkola
- Robert Hagg

If the Kings can sign 1 player on each list (and re-sign Vilardi of course), they'll be looking pretty good going into next season IMO.

Main thing is, in order to do that they'd likely need to deal Durzi, Walker, and either a roster forward or the Petersen contract... Which.... I guess we just have to hope for the best on that front lol.
Mikkola and Hagg are NOT good.

I didn't mind adding Mikkola at the deadline but he was putrid for the Rangers.

Varlamov probably would sign a 1-2 year deal for cheapish until that one tall guy we traded for is ready.

Yeah I wasn't too sure about those two tbh. Was mostly just looking at UFA LHD with size but your point is valid for sure. We'd want/need someone who can play top 4 minutes and I would absolutely not feel great if either of those guys was a top 4 d man for us lol.

If they can somehow get Varlamov for a short/cheap deal that'd be great.

No he wasn't.

Am I the only one that thinks we aren’t going to make any substantial moves? It wouldn’t shock me in the least to see this roster next year:

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
Fiala - Lizotte - Vilardi
Iafallo - Kupari - Grundstrom

Anderson - Doughty
Durzi - Roy
Bjornfot - Walker

Copley
Petersen

I think some of you are getting your hopes up and will be very disappointed.
I think 3-6 of those skaters are in another organization by October and Petersen will likely be in Ontario all year.

Blake said their resigning Kopitar if he wants a extention.
Not even that, they need to find someone to replace him because it will be all for not. Kings need to get a real good center or rebuild again.

6th in the division, out in the first round, negative goal differential. Extended.

Blake is such an idiot lol. It’s not even funny at this point. Sturm has shown no ability to be successful. Extended. Amazing.

Admittedly I'm just stat watching but I mean was there even a single legit prospect in Ontario that you could say had a good season? Maybe Spence?

Why are they bringing this guy back? Head-scratching move.

So, considering that Blake NEEDS to win next year, do the Maple Leafs make a partner if they get swept?

Do the Kings go after Marner? It's not an insane idea for the Kings if they're only concerned with the next year or two. They'd need to clear cap space and provide a good reason for the Leafs to do it.

What's the ask? Roy ($3.1m), Arvidsson ($4.25m), next years 1st? More? Durzi instead of Roy? I'm not sure if it makes sense for the Leafs, but they might sour on someone if they can't do anything again.

He's got a $10 million a year cap hit and he's a UFA year after next. I could actually see them trying to do something like this because of how desperate they'd be to save their jobs. Not sure if it does, but they seem like a crew who would risk it.

Realistically, we could have rode Copley to the playoffs. Probably would have made a wildcard spot, but we would been bounced by Edmonton either way. Quick's contract would have come off the books afterwards anyways, and we'd still have a first round pick. Blake ultimately fubar'ed the trade deadline. It was incredibly risky, and it did not pay off cause we're probably not gonna be able to sign either Korpisalo or Gavrikov.

Dont forget his highly successful PP last year. Another blunder by regular season Rob.. who will be a hunchback soon because he is pressed up against the cap for the foreseeable future.

I left out the powerplay as a criticism because, even though the Kings powerplay improved a lot after Sturm left, the Reign powerplay was also very lethal.

You are more fair than I am. Lets at least say, he couldnt figure out how to improve it when it was basically DFL the whole season... maybe he learned some things from Hiller this year.

Kings probably could've had Korpisalo for a 3rd and a C grade prospect. A move I would have been fine with.

The irony is, had the Kings not acquired Gavrikov, they probably lose a few more games down the stretch and end up playing Colorado in the 1st round. A team they would've had a better chance at beating.

Copley was being rode into the ground and without the trade we probably wouldn't have made the playoffs. Blake love him or hate him filled the kings needs a upgrade in goal and a defenseman If he didn't make this trade people would hate on him for doing nothing Blake was in a lose lose situation

The Kings are trying to be like the Stars (you can debate whether that's a good thing or not).

A mix of vets and youth.

The difference is the Stars have hit on their more recent picks: Robertson, Hintz, Heiskanen, Johnston, Oettinger

If it was a lose lose situation, it would have been better to have lost and keeping the first.

Copley's win rate def dipped but I think the Kings would have still made the playoffs without the need for Korpisalo. Back in February, when they had 25 games left, Copley's win rate had cooled off a bit (85% to 81%) but Quick had improved ever so slightly (up to 50%). The two could have split the remaining games evenly (13 for Copley, 12 for Quick) and the Kings would have had ~100 pts.
