To be honest, I don't see Kayilev long term in the Kings organization just like I don't see Bjornfot long term.

I don't think TM likes one dimensional players and now with Byfield on the wing and Fiala, Kempe, and PLD I don't see Arty making the top 6. I think TM will want another element on the 2nd line to compliment Fiala rather that just another skilled player.

Also, the Kings have Fagemo, Turcotte, Laferriere, and Chromiak all coming up and need to make room for them in the top 9. All those players have another element that Arty can't bring whether it's defensive play or a more physical game - except Chromiak.

I'm expecting this...

Kempe-Kopitar-Kempe
Fiala-PLD-Lewis or Kayilev
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
Grundstrom-Lizotte-Lewis or Kayilev
Extra: JAD

Always the possibility someone like Fagemo, Thomas or Hodgson steals JAD's spot...
I like this strategy of double shifting Kempe on the first line. It's better than what we had last year

You almost made it an entire post without bringing up toughness or physicality.

Did you grow up in Burbank? Just curious. You know… under power lines, next to an airport, in a house full of lead paint and/or asbestos?

The one good thing that I feel is indisputable is that the Fiala trade was an absolutely great deal for the Kings. There will always be Voynov caliber players but there aren’t Palffy caliber players that is for sure.

Fiala is not Palffy caliber.

Do people seriously watch Fiala play and not think he’s Palffy caliber?

Palffy is my favorite player of all time and I have never made this association with any other player other than Fiala so I know I’m just making that claim.

Absolutely I don't think he's Palffy's caliber. Palffy was over a ppg in the dead puck era, was top 10 in scoring, sometimes top 5 in he league in ppg. He routinely outscored hall of famers and if it wasn't for injuries, he'd probably be there himself.

By the time Palffy had played 20 less games than Fiala, he had 233 goals and 253 assists. That's 86 more goals and 45 assists. That's bonkers, considering that was in an era when very few hall of famers broke 100 points. Some seasons Jagr couldn't even hit 100, and he's one of the best ever.

Palffy would be a 110+ point player in today's NHL.

I think there might be some poor memories here if people think Fiala is comparable to Palffy.

Nothing against Fiala but he's just not at that level. Palffy would be a yearly 50G, 100+ Pt player in today's NHL. Who knows how Fiala would have done in the dead puck era that Ziggy played in.

Palffy had three straight 40 goal seasons (45, 48, 43) in the heart of the dead puck era, one other player had 40+ in those three consecutive seasons (Leclair who had 50+ those years). Fiala's career high in goals is 33 and he's only had 25 or more goals once.

Palffy has two Top 5 PPG seasons and another Top 10. In 2004 only Peter Forsberg had a better PPG and in 2001 it was Lemieux, Jagr and Sakic, pretty good company to be in. And two of those Kings teams he was really the only offensive threat. Fiala's best PPG seasons were this years and last years, where he finished 31st and 36th. It's just not even close.

The book isn't closed on Fiala, but he'd have to have some massive seasons to even begin to compare him to Palffy.

Is it safe to re-enter this thread ? 😂

I actually think Thomas is the wild card. The need for physicality makes him interesting as I recall hearing him say that his shoulder surgeries meant he could fight (they’d be an issue for a couple of seasons). His comment was before he re-injured his shoulder. He was though playing with some jam in his game before he got hurt ( I think had a fight). He’s certainly physically strong enough to bring something on that side of things. I just think it’s about if he can bring it all together again and is fully healthy. I don’t see the opening night as an option but later in the season there’s a possibility he gets a look.

I’m really worried about getting him down to Ontario on waivers though because he is worth taking on a rebuilding team. I see him getting sent down early because of it.

He’s arguably the skilled most SINCE Palffy is what most are saying. He’s certainly not better and I think most will agree on that. He’s similar in that he provides a massive ‘x-factor’ and it’s certainly something we’d otherwise lack

Thomas would quickly be a fan favorite if he can stay healthy enough to play. High-energy, high-effort forward who has enough skill to play in the NHL at a lesser role. Can play all positions, and has even played defense when the team is short-handed badly enough.

A Swiss army knife of a player if there ever was one.

Useful for a 21 man roster

40 year old Muzzin/Clifford would make this team better.

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - PLD - Kaliyev
Moore - Danault - Arvidsson
Clifford - Lizotte - Lewis

Anderson - Doughty
Gavrikov - Roy
Muzzin - Clarke

Prediction..first game of the season that goes into OT; Tmac will roll Kopitar Kempe Doughty

Even money there

followed by Arvidsson-Fiala-Roy

Clarke's sent on a mission to pull splinters out of anyone's pants under age 25
