I don’t think it was intentional on your part, but it could be perceived as a “Welcome back, Wayne! Glad you’re here! You can mentor the other ‘ones’”, type thing. How is that weird?
They need a goalie to share the net with Portillo in Ontario. Unless you thought Portillo was going to be the sole goaltender in the minors...Ahahaha I just realized Blake signed Rittich too.
Is this clown legitimately trying to assemble the worst goalie stable the league has ever seen? Cause f*** me sideways this just might be it
Given there are still not a large amount of black players in the NHL I don't see how this comment should ruffle your feathers. Thinking that older Sweedes, Russians, Jewish, Asians, whatever couldn't form an instant bond with younger one's given they have something in common immediately is silly. I don't think JU meant anything negative in his comment.Pretty weird comment, dude.

Same. WeirdHe’s been doing the same to me. It’s legit weird.
I didn't interpret it as a negative, but beyond helping young black players navigate racism in hockey, Byfield, Thomas, Simmonds and Lee are all very different players. Without additional context or explanation, especially in these times, it can lead to misunderstandings.Given there are still not a large amount of black players in the NHL I don't see how this comment should ruffle your feathers. These times? Jesus. Here we go. This is hockey, take the tampon out.
Blake signing a former fan favorite and one of the most prominent black players in the past decade as a mentor to those players should not be interpreted as anything more. Maple Leafs players recently said that Simmonds is very feared and respected around the league. He’s also one of my fav players.
Jon Hoven mentioned that Englund played with Grundstrom and Kempe since he’s Swedish. Better call him out too.
PLD said it’s good to go a team with a French player in Danault. Is there a problem with that?
It’s about comfort level and having a teammate you can relate to.
I think you are digging a bit here. You really think Wayne or any of those players would have a problem with that comment? I do not.I didn't interpret it as a negative, but beyond helping young black players navigate racism in hockey, Byfield, Thomas, Simmonds and Lee are all very different players. It's like when we, subconsciously, just group players of similar nationalities as "mentors" or "buddies." It's not nefarious, but I think it's good to be cognizant of how we inherently group minorities/other nationalities. It would be like saying Grundstrom and Kempe should be on a line together, or they should be buddies, because they're both Swedish.
That’s the issue. You think black players need other black players to relate to and be comfortable with. It’s a bizarre segregationist comment to make.
You’re equating black Americans/Canadians with Swedes, Russians, Finns, etc. who come from a completely different country with a different language and set of cultural customs.
Really use that big five minute fighting major brain of yours and think about that for a second.
I think you are digging a bit here. You really think Wayne or any of those players would have a problem with that comment? I do not.
No guarantee they would have a bond, but suggesting they might is not racism or bigotry even in the slightest sense.
Like Pierre Luc is looking forward to being on a team with Danault. He said it.
Mountain. Meet molehill.
Pretty disingenuous to state it like that. I watched the full interview. He was asked about Danault because during the covid year they played Montreal a lot. He said Danault is extremely difficult to play against which is why he’s happy Danault is on his team and looks forward to playing with him instead. He even said he looks forward to playing with Kopitar too in the same sentence.I think you are digging a bit here. Drawing a big parallel between black people and foreigners is not the brilliant psychosocial observation you and JU think it isI think you are digging a bit here. You really think Wayne or any of those players would have a problem with that comment? I do not.
