Talbot makes sense. Hoven just wrote about how the Kings could sign a 35+ goalie to give a low salary with bonuses for a lower cap hit.
Hopefully his down year was a factor of being in Ottawa. Everyone who played more than 1-3 games had similar numbers to him, and he had the best record

I love me some lewy, but I have less than zero interest in glory years retreads.

There are only two left on the roster as-is, and there won’t be any measurable success until that number is zero.

Specifically said it with forwards only though, a long while ago. We seem to make NHL players out of D men, i.e Durzi, Forbert but we can't even develop a Luff into a decent 4th line scrub. My worries back then are still valid today and should be addressed if we expect to develop higher end prospects like Pinelli, Fagemo, Chromiak, etc to be making the team. Byfield and Kaliyev are still work in progress too.
Well were is luff now?
I mean I get it with guys like Amadio that make it in the NHL.
Don’t you dare talk negatively about my surfing buddies. They are infallible. Everything is awesome.
Pretty sure you meant to say your surfing buddies are inflatable and they can't hear us from the bath tub

A whole crop of those couple draft years was not developed right. Guys like Vilardi, JAD, Kupari, Lias, Thomas, Madden and Dudas didnt really sniff a proper role until Vilardi got some top line minutes last year. At least they have Dubois to show for it but there was a good bit of talent in that range to only come out with Mikey Anderson. Funny enough he was the one immediately given a proper role to take.
Thomas they get a pass on due to injuries and he was actually developing pretty well. The rest…..

The fact everyone is tight against the cap means the might be able to sign JAD if they offer a one way deal, but the smart money would be on him moving.

He was progressing better because the AHL is a good league to develop a player with his skill set. JAD as well but not for years and years after he had a good rookie campaign in the NHL.

I think they'll resign JAD, I don't know what his qualifying offer would've been, but if they believe they can get him cheaper then they will. He really doesn't have a lot of leverage.
Too bad his last name wasn't Golen.. then it would be obvious what he is even to ol RB

Why would the Kings sign a 36 year old Lewis over JAD or an Enforcer? So dumb.

Do two way deals count against the cap?
If they're in the NHL yes, if in the AHL no (unless the cap hit was >1.075). Could very well just be someone they stash on a league min and call up as needed rather than bringing a prospect back and forth

Agreed. If not for injuries he’d have been a good bet for a 4th line role. It’s a shame as I like his character and he had started to add grit to his game. If he has properly recovered then hopefully he can get get a late season cup of coffee.

I am praying for sandpaper on the 4th line, but, the event Blake does something stupid and signs Trevor Lewis instead of a player who can scrap I wonder if the Kings give Hayden Hodson a look. He's 27 on a two way deal and has fought players like Jamie Devane and Tanner Jeannot.

Helenius is a project and only has a year and sum odd change in the AHL. He did have 7 AHL fights, but he lost a few and ended up with a concussion.

Funny how the Kings value the Reign players that they will have Doty, Gouldbourne, and Nate Thompson protecting them but they won't put anyone in LA protecting the players making millions.

Trevor Lewis checks a lot boxes and would be a smart pickup. A right shot 4th liner who wins more than his share of board battles and kills penalties? That's an ideal minimum salary signing.

Grundstrom - Lizotte - Lewis is the kind of competent 4th line this team was lacking all year. Certainly better than shoe-horning in a Kaliyev or Fagemo and asking them to forego their offensive instincts in favor of just getting pucks deep.

Blake's only goal, handed down by Anschutz, was to get the team into the playoffs for a consecutive number of years. Their goal was to make money, not win the cup. It's very clear. Blake doesn't care about developing prospects. He cares about putting a competitive team on the ice.
