He almost has the same amount of games played as Copley. I would expect Blake to go after more of a veteran with a number of games under their belt.
Yea and they will probably need Copley or another veteran signed to go to Ontario as well for insurance.

I’m amazed this is legal.

How does the NHLPA allow this in the CBA?
They probably had to have some legal way to ensure teams can play all the games. If you just fined teams for going over the cap, then it would just be a luxury tax. Docking picks would be finite.

So allowing a team to ice a smaller roster is the "most fair" way.

Without a Roy or Arvi trade, there is no add now.....nor any big trade midseason at the TDL using our 2024 1st. We have no cap space to field a full 23 man roster. How the heck are we adding a piece at the TDL?!?! lol

Retention & LTIR.

Blake did make it sound like he was ready to keep this roster intact, and not move out another contract.

One of two things will happen:

1- Training camp reveals a few surprises and one or more kids make the club and make it easier to move away from a vet

2- we roll with a short roster, which means we’ll have another tender by committee and Blake will try to make a move at the TDL..

I don’t much like option 2 so here’s hoping some of the kids shine and we still get a guy like Vladar

The trade deadline is about nine months away, and you're worrying about it now
No i'm not worrying about that at all. In fact the opposite. I was responding to someone else who mentioned that Blake would be trading our 2024 1st rounder to get a goalie (or other). My point was that we can't add anything now extra for the league minimum...and may need to go one less roster spot. So how could we add anythign valuable at the TDL.

Real question...

What is the trade value of Moore or Arvi? (there has to be an actual answer other than 'nothing.')

Could we trade Moore/Arvi with Provorov's and (potentially) Richards penalty, along with some mid-round pick if necessary to free up cap space?

There has to be some sort of creative answer here to make this roster work...

The cap situation is definitely going to be tight, but it was already going to be that way before the big trade. We still don't know what the cost would've been to lock up Vilardi, and given his history, was he willing to take a bridge contract? Vilardi and Iafallo combined could likely cost more than Dubois. We'll just have to wait and see how his contract situation plays out.

800k goalie
21 man roster
About 500k to spare

Don't see it as workable.

LTIR?
$500k cap space with 21 man roster. That space would accumulate during the course of the season and any unused LTIR space accumulated during the season I believe can also accumulate extra cap space for the deadline.

Another option is to sign a player to a cheap contract, but with easily obtainable performance bonuses. The bonuses don't count until next season.

Okay so given how this offseason is going... Like it or not, it seems pretty clear we're more/less going all in.

With that said..... If Logan Thompson actually is available.....

Would you guys be willing to trade our 2024 1st rounder to Vegas for Thompson???

2 years left at $766k
Would be EXACTLY what the doctor ordered for the Kings. I know it's a long shot Vegas would actually trade him, let alone to the Kings. But it would be pretty perfect. And our 2024 1st rounder likely wouldn't end up being an impact player for the Kings until the late 2020's - and that's IF the player pans out. Could definitely be worth the risk.

That would give us Thompson/Copley for next season. Very solid. Then probably Thompson/Portillo the following season. Certainly tempting.

Here is task at hands for Kings management.

Trade for great young goalie on entry level contract who is ready to play now.

Can we get lucky?

A first round pick for a guy who's played 57 total games in his career, and is coming off injury?

Vegas need him anyways because of his low cap hit.

Yes.

He's a guy who can give us a .910+ save % and would allow us to keep Arvidsson. He's also fairly young - Best case scenario he could be our goalie of the future if it all works out.

To me, that's worth a late 1st round pick (probably/hopefully in the 25-32 range). Late 1st rounders rarely end up being stud NHLers. Kempe is one of the few exceptions and even then, we all saw how long it took Kempe to really come around. Even if we make a great pick with that 2024 1st round selection, that player likely wouldn't be an impact player for the Kings until around 2027/28 at the earliest.

I say it's worth the gamble. Understand though if people disagree.

He's a left shot.

Doesn't have as much size/toughness as we'd like, but could make a more than capable bottom pairing LHD.

Luckily it will only be during home stands, but the thing here is that they were very healthy last year. Any kind of minor injuries this year will be major headaches.
