Roy could net a first from a team that has legit Cup aspirations at the TDL.

Sekera value wasn't crazy at all. Guy was eating 20+ minutes a night. Contenders toss 1st round picks at the TDL to shore up a perceived area of weakness all the time.

Roy is playing ~21 minutes a night this season. 27 years old with a good cap number for the rest of his term. Built for the playoffs type guy with his physicality.

Roy is worth a first round pick, just not a high first round pick. There's a chasm of difference between a top 5 pick and something around 25th OA.

No offense, I'm sure I've posted some bad trade proposals myself, but no way in hell is Matt Roy worth that.

A player like Roy could never fetch a top 5 pick, much less an additional quality prospect.

You might as well offer Roy for Power if you think he's worth that much.
Buffalo has FLA & VGK 1sts as well as their own. Wasn't thinking it would be Buffalo's 1st.

Why do we need picks again right now?
Looking past this year
Mikey/Doughty
???/Roy
Bjornfot/Durzi
LD
Moverare, Kiril

RD
Clarke, Faber, Grans, Spence
Walker
Fine with moving one of the RD to the left. Blake has been talking about getting a Left D. Too many players for too few spots. Durzi is fine on the 3rd pair. If a 2nd pair LD is brought in to pair with Clarke, where does Roy play? Could try Clarke/Roy 2nd pair.

It will be intresting to see how Blake sorts out the roster.

I love Faber. We're obviously all-in on Clarke. Spence has always been intriguing and is having a phenomenal season. Grans is nothing to shake a stick at either.

That said, I'm not trading Matt Roy just to make room for someone that hasn't proven anything yet at the NHL level. Now, I can do Walker since he's been gone all year and they've been fine but what if he can play LD next season? Trading him now or in the off-season is probably selling low.

These guys can try and take Roy's spot first. Also, what if one of them can switch sides?

I do think that Faber could come in to camp and just blow the doors off but he also wouldn't be hurt by starting the year in Ontario. Regardless, you can use up all the years you can for when they don't have to pass through waivers: they don't all have to be on the big club at once. Is Durzi doing Durzi things up in the NHL if Walker never gets hurt? These kids will organically get their chance without having to necessarily open a spot for them by moving a proven guy.

It could become a "problem" at some point but it is a good problem to have. I hope to God that one of these lists that runs five prospects deep asking "what are we going to do" actually turns in to "what are we going to do" one of these days.

Yeah, by no means am I endorsing trading Roy, just arguing that his value is higher than that being discussed.

I could see a future in which we trade Roy for an upgrade. I could even see Roy in a swap for a guy like Chychrun or Provorov. At his current salary, he’s super valuable for a contending team as well.

Roy is on a great contract. I wouldn't trade Roy for an upgrade due to that. The cap savings can be used to upgrade another position or retain our UFAs/RFAs.

Looks like the Kings are fortunate that none of the injuries to RV, Anderson, and Doty appear more than day to day. Sucks about Lemieux though.

Roy is the Kings best D man - he's also the most physical. No way trade him

The lines should be this...

Iafallo-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-Danault-Arvidsson
AA-Byfield-Grunstrom
Lemy-Lizotte-Kayilev

Doughty-Anderson
Roy-Edler (if he is re-signed - if not sign a tough and or stay at home D man).
Durzi-Bjornfot

Trade Walker, let Brown and Maata walk.

The Kings are 5th in the conference based on points %. If they had held on against Dallas, they would be 4th and just % points behind St. Louis for 3rd. Winning the division is absolutely still possible.

I did not think this was even remotely possible at the start of the season.

I don't think Roy is worth trading. If you get a late first for him, you hope to get a big, minute-eating defenseman, which is exactly what he is. Yeah, he's got his deficiencies and he's probably not going to evolve much, but unless there is something really dynamic to replace him I don't see the point.

Uh no. He's solid but not really even close to DD.

None of this matters because the PP sucks.

I disagree. Sekera got a 1st and a prospect as a rental at an older age.

Sekera had played more than double the amount of games as Roy has when he was traded. I’m guessing that counts for something. Maybe in two more years Roy will return a 15th overall pick. Now? Don’t think so.

Got news for you, he's the #2 defenseman on THIS team and they are doing pretty damn good.

Splitting hairs as usual. I love Roy but let’s not go nuts. Durzi may well surpass him by next year. Then Clarke. Then Faber. If DD is still around that puts Roy out. Maybe a first round pick for him then. I will trade Anderson before Roy - I give you that.

Roy is 'boring' but he's absolutely comparable to other guys who would easily get a #1 pick, like Tanev.

We're swimming in them for some reason but shutdown d-men are hard to find around the league. Look how much the 2nd pairing struggled until Roy's emergence.
