I thought Petersen would take over the net this year, but he had some early struggles and Quick had some flashes of his old self after the first few games of the season. Right now the plan seems to be for the next 3 years after this season is primarily Cal Petersen. He's 27, Quick will be 37 next year. Both have mediocre goals against averages and save percentages, pretty much the same. The difference is when Petersen starts, the Kings have a much better record. Kings are 15-9 with 31 out of a possible 48 pts when Cal starts, Kings are 15-17 with 36 out of a possible 64 pts when Quick starts. So the Kings are leaving a lot of points on the table when Quick is in the net, attribute that to any factor you may wish.
Right now Villalta is the best of the Kings prospects in goal, more experienced and the AHL staff thinks pretty highly of him, but its clear the Kings so far have not had the confidence that he's NHL ready since they have brought in a veteran AHL/NHL goalie every year to play on the Reign as the "next man up". I think the Kings will give Villalta another deal, maybe just 1 year, we'll see. He's been a lot better this year, so improvement is noted. Not sure if he has the talent to take the Reign to the promised land, I guess we'll find out. Ingham and Parik have shown some flashes, but are inconsistent. We'll see if any win a job next year in ONT. Parik still is on an AHL deal, has not signed an NHL contract yet. Ingham has one more year on his NHL deal.
