He did make a Tkachuk cry so he gets a pass.

Blake has had some good adds. He struggles with identifying when vets games drop off & dealing with that before it becomes an issue. Carter comes to mind. Brown is going on now. Next is going to be Quick, further complicated by Cal not taking the #1. Kopi is starting to look like he could develop into an issue sooner than later. Hope Blake becomes better at spotting & dealing with this.

Can Carter really be classified as his game dropping off? 29 points in 51 games.....29 points on LA right now would be tied for 7th,

Not saying you are right or wrong, but I don't know if we know that that is a struggle or not....the only player who you can make an argument, (IMO a poor argument) is Brown.....and even then, 23 points, playing 3rd line minutes etc.

Carter lost his motivation to skate for LA. Not the 1st time he bailed on a team. We all knew he was capable of more if he tried. Blake missed that.

Brown is having an awful year. This is from his inability to handle the puck due to age & injury. This is not likely to improve. He is constantly handing the puck to the other team. Also he is the worst forward currently on the team. Remembering what Brown was is clouding some people's judgment. If you're going to argue Brown is having a fine year, I'd point you to his atrocious stats given PP1 time all season & 4th line usage.

So Blake traded a guy who you say bailed on the team, and you say Blake missed on that? What?

Brown is having a fine year for what he is, a 37 year old former 1st liner, who is now playing 3rd and 4th line minutes, and mentoring kids....

Blake missed on Carter in that he went into the season with 77 scheduled as the 2C. This eventually led to a bad season with Kempe playing at 2C & getting a bad return on Toffoli. I'd call that a miss.

It's fine having a 37 year old finish out his contract. It's a bit of a bad move tanking the team in the playoffs by not improving the worst forward on the team. Also the race for the playoffs is tight & the Kings are not guaranteed a spot by any means. Brown is hurting their ability to qualify for the post season. As GM Blake should constantly be trying to improve the team.

I don't think it was apparent Carter had more in the tank until the season started, though. He finally got his speed back. In the prior two seasons, he didn't have that. I don't think there would have been much of a market for him before the season started.

So...Carter....coming off one of the worst injuries for a hockey player, has 19 points in 40 games, and Kempe having a bad year....29 points in 56 games, and a bad return in Toffoli....who was dealt BEFORE all this....

Yea, I'm not buying that, whatsoever....before his injury he was on a 67 point pace, pretty much average career pace, he suffers a brutal injury, comes back for 76 games and 33 points....still recovering, then next is 60 games, 27.....and ok...I will bite, WHEN do you think Blake should have moved Carter?

A few jumbled thoughts...

I hate that stat so much.

If an argument for or against a player starts and ends with how many points they have I'm not listening.
Speaking of points whats up with Iafallo? He isnt putting up the numbers but thats not the entire issue. He looks a little slower than normal. Is he playing hurt?

Maybe if Nashville falls some, could package Iafallo, AA (to make the cap work) Vilardi (or Kupari?) +#1 for Forsberg (signed to extension)
I like AI, but need another game breaker. Kempe and Arvidsson game breaker 2nd tier types.

4 swede top 9, it's all about the tre kronor

Forsberg Danault Arvidsson
Moore Kopitar Kempe
Andersson Byfield Brown
Lemieux Lizotte Kaliyev

Forsberg would be a nice addition! They can get him for free though in offseason so if they dont wanna spend the assets they can wait it out. Could be an interesting deadline

Blake putting his faith in a vet coming off a bad injury to be the 2C & not bringing in a backup plan was the mistake.

Blake riding out the vet now & getting angry when called on it now is the issue. Was that Luc that got angry at the meeting when asked about Brown?

2 more important issues than 77 & 23 are the future goalie issues & the very real decline of Kopitar. Both of these issues will need to be addressed nearing what should be the Kings' window. Blake riding out the vet in these cases concerns me.

Nobody wants old players with term. There is no "dealing" with that until the contract is very close to being done. That's not a Blake thing. That's not a Kings thing. It's a cap thing.

LMAO...Jesus Christ, and people wonder why I say the shit that I do, I try to be nice....I really do....

The very real decline of Kopitar.....you mean the guy who has 51 points in 56 games, that's on pace for 75 points, his best season in 3 years....that VERY REAL decline? The very real decline of a guy who is playing 20 minutes a game......etc, I mean seriously, where do you get this stuff from?

Is Kopitar the same player he was 10 years ago, no, of course not, is there a very real decline happening right this second, no...there isn't, could there be one next year, 2 years from now....maybe, but if you know that it's coming, you should go play the damn powerball numbers tonight....

I agree that Kopitars struggles are very often overstated but points totals apart something isn’t quite right with his game, currently. He is making some uncharacteristic defensive errors and doesn’t look as threatening offensively even if points are coming.

I don’t actually think his game is falling apart though because the points wouldn’t be there, if that were true. I just keep think he will figure it out, hit his stride and go on a tear. He’s still our best player… until someone takes the crown.

I think if we can reduce his minutes on ice by about 2 mins a game and reduce his role on the PK it will help. Getting older but still a very smart player. Still has size, offence and still excels at face offs. Just keep his legs a little fresher

Kopitar is still good but his defense isnt as good as it can be. Whats it matter if he scores one but is out for two against when he could have picked up a man? Hes never lost this many shifts in his entire career. Hes still good and can play in the league for a long time off talent alone.

Aside from his first few years has he EVER looked threatening offensively? Not to me, he's not dynamic, never has been, his greatest strength, is..his strength, and the way he thinks the game.....

Big guys look less threatening usually, it's just the nature of how the game passes the eyeball test. There was a famous story of the scouts for the Blues watching the first two periods of a game with Mario in junior and being so unimpressed they tried to leave but found they were stuck in a blizzard that started while they game was going on so they decided to go back in and watch the final period. Lemieux had like six points in that period and wowed them. In reflection, they said to them it looked like Mario wasn't putting in effort but it's just how he played the game was very economical in terms of effort he had to put out to get the maximum gain. The puck didn't go in the first two periods, he looked lazy. It started going in after and he looked great but nothing had changed really in terms of his effort. Kopi is Kopi, he's looking now like he looked five years ago.

That said, I'd still change him up on the PK. Whatever it is, the PK hasn't been working and something needs to change. Not sure why we're not giving Danault more time there.

The reason you don't change him up on PK, is the way he thinks the game, now having said that, I think they do need to change him up DESPITE the way he thinks the game, I thought they were moving slightly away from him, last 5 games, he's had 2:34 (1st), 1:42 (3rd), 1:51 (T-1st), 2:24 (3rd), 00:38 (3rd) in terms of forwards....probably a game by game basis.....

Surprisingly, the two worst penalty killers on the Kings in terms of failure rate (goals against per 60 minutes) are Drew Doughty and Anze Kopitar. These two get scored on so often on the penalty kill you'd think they enjoy it. Strangely, the coaches go right to them every time.
