I'm not sure I follow your logic, wouldn't it be easier to rack up points on a high scoring team? I'm just not sure how you can discount a defenseman scoring goals because his team is bad, that seems to be overthinking it.

Not if you're not the focal point of the offense. Does Chychrun get PP1 time over Doughty here? Does he keep Clarke down? What's the purpose exactly?

Like I said, a lot in common with OEL. Or, look what happened to Karlsson when he had to start sharing the puck and offensive opportunities.

Don't get me wrong I think the defense and balance is a lot better with Chychrun, and options are always good--I just don't think people should think we're getting a 20-goal dman.

The Kings will likely be a much better team when the kids develop to the point that Doughty is in Roy's role and Kopitar is no longer getting the top offensive situations - even if it means missing the playoffs in transition.

Adding costly players behind them instead of prioritizing the development of kids to supplant them, especially since they already have such promising candidates in house, would be a regrettable decision.

Time is all they need, and they could cut that time down if they shifted their priorities. But, that doesn't appear to be their goal, so lets embrace mediocrity and cling to our heroes so they can "market" (exploit) the Cups earned by other folks who had higher aspirations - and the ability to achieve them.

Okay let’s get both Chychrun and Hague. They are very young and will help pre and post Kopitar. Both fill a certain element we are lacking. Plus teams can’t focus on our offense coming from just the right side at the point. Hague protects Clarke. Plus I love Hague and I hate Vegas so this gives me a chance to cheer for him.

Doughty - Anderson
Roy - Chychrun
Clarke - Hague

Xtra - Edler
First call up - Spence

Missing - Durzi, Bjornfot, Moverare, Walker

Chychrun actually has really good ES totals, so I don't think him not being on the PP1 is going to be that big of an issue production wise. I would actually imagine his production would improve by picking up a few more secondary assists.

As for Karlsson, I am no fan of his, but what year exactly are you talking about when his production dropped because he had to share offensive opportunities? When he went to the Sharks he put up the same exact scoring rate as he had the previous 4 seasons.

Anyways, the Kings lack a goal scorer on the blue line and Chychrun is one of the best goal scoring defensemen in the league. Acquiring him when he is 23 and on a value contract should be something we at least attempt.

I think it should be something LA should look at but, but I think they should be looking at every player especially guys who are rumored to be available. Chychun's contract is amazing if he stays healthy. It is just hard to do.

Iafallo (cap)-Durzi/Grans-conditional first is the most I would want to go, and I doubt that is enough for Arizona. So I don't think LA should be interested at the price.

Durzi is the same age as Chychrun, so basically the Kings would be trading a conditional first to dump Iafallo's contract and acquire Chychrun. That would be an absolutely fantastic trade if it happened, but as you said the value is wayyyy off.

Chychrun fits well in Todd's high shot volume system. JC loves to shoot the puck, but unlike the rest of our Dmen he's quite good at it.

Chychrun has averaged 3 SOG per game over the last two seasons. And that's on an anemic Phoenix team that was dead last in SOG last season.

I don’t see how we have a realistic package that wins out for a Chycrun trade.

Assuming it’s 3 for 1, table stakes are a first and Durzi, which are sweeteners.

The centerpiece is where things fall apart. Yotes will want one of Byfield, Clarke or Kaliyev. AKA one of “the future core” of the Kings.

Given this isn’t a win now team, it’s hard to mortgage significant futures for what is a high cost depth move, considering Chycrun would somehow play behind 8 point Mikey for all the wrong reasons.

Catch 22. You can’t pay over $15M for the first pair and have all other defenseman make way less combined.

A conditional 24 1st, based on him playing 100 games over the next two seasons, a prospect, and a player to even out the cap. AZ wouldn't do it and I would be ok with that.

If EDM is for some reason trying to trade Broberg I would look at that.

If Calgary is going to move on from Hanafin, and Blake thinks he could sign him longer that would be good. They also have Valimaki and Kylington there and talks about Weegar signing long term.

Winipeg has Stanley and Samberg, both big LD. They need a RD for their second pairing.

All LD I would take a look at before overpaying for Chychrun

If we trade for a LD I want a guy the opposition fans will hate and consider to be a dirty player. We need to round out the D in terms of balance. Clarke emerging gives us an offensive option and if he sticks an undeniable ’x-factor’ on the blue line. Edler is his natural partner on the current roster but at some point we are going to want someone with genuine grit and physicality alongside him.

Vegas is still dicking him around right now. As of 3 days ago he's been skating with Kitchener Rangers.

Would love Hague on the back end to bring some physicality to this team.

I'd love to get Hague or Soucy.

I wonder if Vegas or Seattle are interested in Chyrchrun.

Would Chychrun sell more tickets for Seattle than Soucy?

Vegas is ruthless AF with its players, would they ditch Martinez and Hague + to get Chychrun?

Perhaps a three way with either and zona could work. (as long as we are not the ones getting spit roasted)

The way I see it, the Kings have an organizational weakness at LHD and with offense from the blue line. chychrun fills both of those holes, is young and is on a great contract. The Kings also have a surplus of forward prospects, to the point where we are going to lose some of them sooner rather than later. Currently Iafallo, Fiala, Danault, Arrvy, Kempe and Kopitar are all locked up for the next two seasons and are making 4+ million. That leaves 6 forward spots to Moore, Andersson, Byfield, Turcotte, Kaliyev, Grundstrom, Lizotte, Lemeiux, Thomas, JAD, Vilardi, Fagemo, Madden, Pinelli and Helenius.
