I canceled last year and then a few months back they had a promo for $1 a month for 1 year and now I’m back… they just have so much good content
I didn't see this, but the reasons I canceled had more to do with the utter BS Mandel was writing about the cancellation of Pac-12 football games while the rest of the country was playing.

I think Nate Thompson exists to be a punching bag in preseason action, and might earn an AHL contract. He's not going to beat out Byfield, Lizotte, Anderson-Dolan, Vilardi, or Kupari for a spot on the roster. That is unless Todd McLellan has lost his f***ing mind.
Just remember, the Kings hired Willie D. Anything is possible with coaches. They arent Einsteins. Willie D probably couldn’t even crack it as a court jester but he got a job in the NHL. Don’t underestimate the stupidity of coaches.

Good point - Nate could end up in AHL since there are no vets down there anymore and hes only two hours away from the South Bay and gets to practice in El Segundo.

I am huge Brandon Prust fan and he said after this tryout with the Kings they offered him an AHL deal in Ontario.

It's a PTO. Who tf cares?

Like, I know I'm critical of how much the vets get leaned on over prospects but;
- you need a contract to participate in training camp
- every preseason has split-squad or back-to-back games
- need more bodies for scrimmage

Anyone more reactive than "oh, okay" is just looking for reasons to get upset. If they really wanted him for roster/srasonal purposes, they would have signed him when free agency began.

This is a "hey, we need bodies, and you've played pro. Can you strap on a helmet and hit somebody?" Signing.

Edit: forgot. Can be AHL depth too.

Doubt he’d hang around biding time in the AHL.

The Willie D hiring was an intentional FU to the players for sucking, like when the Red Sox hired Bobby Valentine after their epic collapse late in the 2011 season.

Common sense says this is just camp competition, a good veteran who is a warm body trying to earn an NHL gig anywhere.

But how the Kings have handled all of the above is anything but common. I want to not be worried, but...until the dust settles, I reserve the right to freak out.

Disappointed in the lack of Kings' coverage, but as a Dodger/Ram fan I really enjoy the Athletic. Much better than the coverage in the LAT.
Yeah, I'm mainly considering keeping it because of their fantasy football/hockey and EPL coverage. I also nominally try to pay attention to what the Dodgers and Padres are doing, but only to not feel like a total idiot among some of my close friends who are massive baseball fans.

The thing is the Kings don't have a bunch of scrubs on the roster. They lean on the vets, but they also incorporate prospects. Blake and Co. are cognizant enough to know they need to develop the prospects, but they genuinely believe their current method is the best approach.

As you know, I disagree. Especially with the Kings current cupboard of prospects, they need to get a better handle on what prospects they have so they aren't lost to waivers.

Anyway, the point is, there are reasonable times to be concerned. Signing a scrub vet the day of training camp is overly reactionary, in my opinion.

Yeah, I got an email asking me to come back for a buck and like a fiend … I did lol

If true, that’d be bizarre the organization would prioritize sending a message by bombing

Why doesnt the team make this kind of basic info readily available on their website?

This summer it sure feels like unless there's direct money to be made on something, they're not gonna say shit.

I've definitely gotten more than a few ads selling tickets for the empire invasion or whatever preseason shit though.

It’s just bizarre. MLB teams make a big deal about counting down how many days until pitchers and catchers report. How is the NHL so bad at this so consistently.
