Holy moly. 1 million for Anderson and 1.3 for Lemieux. Blake is really getting these guys for very little.

Next season the following come off the books.

750 for Edler
1 million plus for Phaneuf
Richards drops from 900k to 700k
Quick and is 5 plus million. I would assume he re signs for less on a one year deal.
I agree the Anderson deal is good for LA, but what do you think Lemieux is worth?

Allan Walsh punching air right now

Do I do what's right for my client and the team or do I chase the suitcase full of money
Agreed. Makes it tougher to get a good deal for Durzi IMO, because he’s below Anderson in the depth chart and has been mentioned there is more competition for his spot.

A similar deal for DurzI would let us see if he really has it. If not he can be easily traded at that price or at worst waived and the contract buried if he passes through.

A little more than he got, maybe 1.5 but I think his QO was higher so it was well played by Blake. Edit: it was 1.65

Don’t give Luc any ideas.

Also, since it had been discussed here earlier with their decision to have one writer cover both SoCal hockey teams. The NY Times announced today that the Athletic will be adding advertisements to the platform. Certainly a strange move to make when people are paying a monthly or annual subscription and one of their big selling points was having no ads.

The transition from the private equity group to the New Yuck times has been very disappointing, even more so than expected.

Gives me even more affirmation as to why I canceled my subscription.

I wasn’t going to cancel but I think a lot of people are thinking more like you. A buddy told me to go cancel and they will throw you a good offer to try and get you to stay. I was on a monthly for I think $7 a month and they offered me a yearly for $19.99 and I went ahead and took it.

The ads are really terrible on mobile and don’t seem to make a lot of sense. Chanel and Bros movie doesn’t seem to be the kind of demo that would have a subscription to the service.

I was at TSPC today and to my surprise the entire NHL squad was scrimmaging.

I noticed Durzi was participating but in a red non-contact(or non-contract) jersey 😄

I also noticed Nate Thompson was skating out there in Kings gear, PTO? Also, why????
Tyler Toffoli, Jeff Carter, Nate Thompson and others that still live in the area can be seen on the ice from time to time in the offseason wearing the gear of the team they currently play for.

Durzi wearing a red non-contact jersey could be as simple as him skating without a contract but I confess that's speculation.

Nice! Was Fiala on the ice?

It's the NYT, of course it is disappointing.

The NYT has been pretty successful in transitioning from print subscriptions into the digital age with its main business. I think the changes at The Athletic point to the stark truth which is that they haven't been cash flow positive prior to acquisition. The ads suck and the reduced hockey coverage sucks and both may make me cancel. However, I also recognize startups can't continue ad infinitum losing money. It's the same reason why things like MoviePass failed or why Peloton will either have to sharply raise its prices or crash and burn.
