No, I was asking because on a good day I remember the morning.......that's about it.....

But....having said that, Clarke WAS drafted in the 1st round.....so you theorizing that they would trade Durzi to play Clarke, does not coincide with what you are saying......about how the Kings handle players chosen in the 1st round.....right?

Well, just because they made bizarre and unorthodox development decisions with Turcotte, Byfield, Kupari and to some extent Vilardi doesn't mean they will always do it. Perhaps they have learned from their mistakes with those players and will take more traditional and proven development paths going forward with high-end picks, one can only hope.

Clarke being in the NHL (atleast for 9 games) in his D+2 is kind of standard for a player taken that high in the draft. He is a fine young player who has a dominant season of junior hockey under his belt and there is no need to have him play in the AHL (next season) before jumping to the NHL, there are countless top 10 picks who never stepped foot on AHL ice and have somehow found a way to be good NHL'ers (and no Glen Murray, it's not only McDavid). The Kings are trying to be a playoff team so they can't have him up all year if he's really struggling, but maybe he seamlessly steps in, the worst case scenario is he is bad and they send him back to the OHL.

The good news is that Clarke is locked into the CHL agreement and is ineligible for the AHL this season. So it's either the NHL or the OHL, which are the two best places for a prospect of his caliber to be.

I am guessing that Durzi is in a holding pattern pending how Clarke looks at the rookie camp and tournament. I think there is still a chance he is traded if they are convinced Clarke is NHL ready.
That my gut feeling at this point otherwise it’d be done already. Clarke’s status will probably affect who gets moved/signed at this point as it would be insane to send him back to the OHL if he’s ready.

They don't really have the cap space this season to do that.
If they really tried, I think they could find a way to work it out. Probably involves dumping walker somehow.

Arvidisson on IR gives them some flexibility as well I believe.

I have a feeling a lot of teams are going to be looking at LA’s AHL experiment as an example of what not to do with prospects eligible for the AHL before they’re “ready”.

The AHL is great for developing certain types of players. Middle to upper middle level players who finished their junior careers, 2-4 years in college or have established themselves as quality European pros and ready to make the jump over but need some seasoning. Even some high end guys can spend *some* time down there. But there is a reason that no other team has used their AHL affiliate quite like the Kings have, it is not a league that is ideal for teenagers and elite prospects.

The Kings have had great success developing middle to upper middle level prospects heavily using their AHL affiliate and have had very poor results with high end players using the same heavy AHL emphasis.

I've asked this so many times and none of the people who defend this strategy can explain why so many other teams can break in their high end pieces directly from junior or the NCAA with little or no experience in the AHL but the Kings refuse to. I mean Murray's quote about only McDavid types being able to jump straight to the NHL without tons of AHL seasoning is just so laughably bad and factually incorrect, and this is a guy playing a large part in developing our prospects, how can someone be so clueless about the rest of the league?

If Clarke option is the OHL or the NHL then you know which one he should take. Over marinating players seems to f*** them up when they are top end.

Holy moly. 1 million for Anderson and 1.3 for Lemieux. Blake is really getting these guys for very little.

Next season the following come off the books.

750 for Edler
1 million plus for Phaneuf
Richards drops from 900k to 700k
Quick and is 5 plus million. I would assume he re signs for less on a one year deal.

They have to have some kind of handshake agreement that a bigger extension is coming after the season. There is no other logical reason for Anderson to accept this deal.

I see no reason his game would fall off with his age and style, just hope he can stay healthy.
Yeah, all I can imagine is this is a "show me" contract, because there's very little reason to do this from Anderson's side

Not sure if there is much of an alternative given the Kings cap space. It’s either sign for cheap now or be traded. Maybe he’s happy in LA and knows they will take care of him once they are able to.

The Blake era is littered with these obvious "handshake deals"

It's one of the reasons I push back so hard when people mention the Kuemper trade as having been one of the worst.

Rob Blake, for the most part, has shown time and time again that he will do right by the players and we're now seeing the benefit of that policy.

Danult signs as a free agent trusting the message given and followed up on by the front office.
Fiala is traded here on the strength of his willingness to sign a long term extension after talking to the front office.
players signing two way deals early in contracts that mature into one way deals in later years
Edler sings a contract with bonuses that kick in next season
Anderson signs a one year deal

the players are working with the organization to make things work

requisite mention of my personal bias as an employee but I don't think these things are unrelated

With Anderson at $1M, the theoretical cap space is $3M, with Durzi left to sign.

The stars seem to be aligning for a Chycrun trade. Chycrun, Anderson, Edler/Moverare is a significant re-slotting of LD into natural roles. Put Doughty, Roy and Walker on the other side, and the D looks completely balanced.

If you can turn Durzi, Vilardi, Bjornfot and a 23 1st into a package, I think that beats anything Ottawa has to offer and fits what the Coyotes are building. And that clears just enough cap space to fit Chycruns contract.

Fiala Danault Kempe
Iafallo Kopitar Arvidsson
Lemieux Lizotte Moore
Grundstrom Byfield Kaliyev

Anderson Doughty
Chycrun Roy
Edler Walker

Quick

JAD Kupari
Moverare
Petersen

Isn’t it kind of crazy to think about how much people like Durzi? I like him too but it’s because of how much character he plays with and heart. Says so much about the NHL and the Kings when it’s Durzis personality that we desire. The fans love him. So weird how boring nhl players are that Durzi stands out as much as he does.

I really ended up like Danault when he just started wailing on Larkin.

We have too many p***y veterans who would let this slide.

Yeah it’s a good setup for a long term extension that gets most or all of his best years, and he’ll probably end up with a letter. Very happy with the situation.
