I can't take it any more.... dude doesn't know what he's talking about.

It's a lazy aggregation of a bunch of publicly available information presented in a way that's not offensively wrong but never provides any actual insight or context.

The cap space number is totally made up or if it's taken off of capfriendly as some have said then it's just blindly accepting and regurgitating a number that isn't there to serve that purpose.

I am in a bad mood.

Kempe is only 25. I don't think it's unreasonable to think he finally broke out and should put up similar numbers over the next few years, rather than saying last year was atypical for him thus far, and thus he must perforce go back to the numbers of his prior years - when he averaged 25% fewer minutes a game and played with worse linemates. I know everyone is required to be conservatively pessimistic around here, but I think context matters....
How can you say that when this production isn’t even close to his other seasons.

I don’t see why anyone would have an issue with this video. There’s nothing wrong with the gist of his information. He aggregated the questions and points about the Kings cohesively.

The video is spot on for the most part.

Cal sucked
Special teams sucked
Rookies were bad

If these three things get better then the Kings are sitting pretty.

If they get worse somehow I can easily see them falling apart too.

Very good video for hockey fans. Makes four videos a day. Really good content for a guy who obviously puts a lot of time pushing out content. And you’d think the quality would suck but it doesn’t. Better than most imo.

Still waiting for a person affiliated with the Kings to make critical content like the Rosen/Hammond era

Do I think Kempe will revert to being a 15-goal scorer next season? No.

Do I think Kempe will score 35 goals again next season? Also No.

I would expect something around 25 goals, and be pleasantly surprised if it is more.

i mean, that's kinda his shtick right? he's the everyfan and his youtube methodology is to pump out content all day every day. not much room for indepth analysis when you're pumping 3-5 videos a day, he's just shooting from the hip while (imo) at least doing his due diligence

dunno, he's not my favorite internet personality but i think he's at least reasonably fair

gotta remember too, getting some things intentionally wrong or omitting things gets you comment engagement on youtube which is overall good for your channel..

This is one of those times where I type out long long paragraphs of opinion and then realize I shouldn't have said anything in the first place and delete it all.

If people enjoy his videos who am I to say otherwise.

Good for him.

Yup. For a YouTube channel that pumps out a ton of content a day I think he’s doing a great job for the average fan.

And if he’s omitting anything I don’t think it’s nearly as egregious as Jon Hoven.

heh, yeah been there

i'm about to sit in a bus/train for about 12 hours so i was blindly browsing his videos, seems like he's pretty open about pivoting his channel off views.. it's the youtube thing, don't hate the player hate the game i guess

The Hockey Guy is legit.

Love waking up to his videos in the morning with my coffee; guy knows his stuff.

Absolutely.

He’s calm. Don’t hear a lot of hot takes that proliferate the YouTube/media world. Honest with his assessments and will say good AND bad things about each team. He might not know the reason management/coaching sat our prospects to play AA in game 7 (oh boy, we went there yet again) but he can cover a team with a passing grade.

He’s passionate about the game and has a lot of humility.

As you said, can easily watch with a morning coffee.

I don't get it...what is it about his opinion and/or video are you upset about?
Honestly it's just my own personal pet peeve that's been built up over years and is just particularly agitated this week over a bunch of different stuff I've been seeing lately and for whatever reason him saying that the Kings have $1.5M in cap space just made me lose it.

Because it's just a nonsense statement.

It's not "wrong" per se because it doesn't actually MEAN anything... not in a useful way anyway.

Presumably he just looked at CapFriendly when he was doing his "research", saw the number, wrote it down and then just repeated it.

So now other people will hear that and repeat it and other people will repeat that and other people will repeat that and suddenly it becomes "true" and part of the story and it just isn't.

Again... not in any meaningful way.

I am being very nitpicky. I get that.

I'll be diplomatic and say that while I like THG and usually enjoy his take on the Kings, I also agree with you that Shannon's takes do lean toward playing it safe more often than not and he doesn't drive deep enough in certain respects. Though, it is pretty hard to objectively or even subjectively do that with all 32 teams in the league.

Have you ever watched any non-local hockey media before?

No pundit knows every NHL team intimately. In fact, I don't think anyone knows more than one team very well.

That's always the problem with pundits who have to comment on all 32 teams.

So I'll defend THG on this. Sure his take isn't deep, but it's still better than a lot of paid professional pundits that are on TV.

And since there's so little "King's talk" out there, I think people just like to hear an outsider's take even if it's rather sanitized.

In fairness I heard his statement about the Cap and my thought was ‘huh’? Partly because he’s normally better than that.

As others have said he really pumps out content and his game day coverage and reviews is better than some professional outlets. He’s a good guy and if he was told he got it (or anything else) wrong my gut is he’d be receptive to that feedback.

However I do get your frustration because you are thinking in terms of the bigger picture and how it misrepresents things and drives unfounded views with the fan base If it then gets picked up by 50 other podcasts and YouTube channels. Well that’d be my concern anyway. That along with when you see so many of us present opinion as it were fact, it must drive you nuts.

Kempe could get 21g this year, and the Kings could still end up with 105pts.

Aug 15, 2021, someone predicts Doughty misses 40 games, none of us think they not only make the playoffs, but push a series to 7 without him. The only question is how high is the 2022 pick. Kempe and Danault could never elevate their games without Doughty. That would never happen. They're just not good enough players.

Throw in Edler for half the year, and Walker for pretty much 0% of games, that's 3 of the top 6 heading into the year. This head coach couldn't coach such a depleted roster to even an important game in Feb.

Sometimes we get so hooked onto numbers. Same with the process in general. If the blueprint isn't exactly like 2012, they can't win again. Bjornfot has to be the new Scuderi. If they don't have a Scuderi, they can't do what they did before.

Someone will probably have a career year. Someone will probably have a down year. Someone will probably get hurt. Someone will probably sort of come out of nowhere and provide unexpected play/production.

Jim Hill at Luc Robitaille's retirement gala: "By the way, because I know we are all interested...then proceeds to give the halftime score of the Lakers game." I have no idea why they invited that moron to Luc's gala, but it shows just how dumb the Kings PR department is/was at the time.

It is pretty much the same today. The Kings cater to the casual fan, and forget the fans who have been their bread and butter for their entire existence.

It's also just kind of a building frustration with other outlets that have been driving me crazy for similar reasons that finally just happened to coincide with a bad mood from me and my *cough* dads friend constantly talking about how much he loves THG and me just havin enough of it.

This is why I shouldn't post on here.

I have no idea what you are talking about...but does anyone know when the next Snoop Dogg night is?

A complete right turn on the discussion. Does anyone known if the Royal Blue on the team jersey uses the official Pantone number? I’m after an exact colour match for my next tattoo.

Who doesn't cater to that fan? The whole.league has become nicer in order to get more fans who don't want the violence that angers up the blood...and actually makes rivalries fun.

If the Kings can't actually sell out the building when things aren't great, rhey have to fill that empty space. If you can hook one new diehard for every 25 casuals, or whatever the ratio, is that worth it? As annoying as they are, have the Kings lost any diehards because of the dog calendars or cupcakes or whatever else?

fair as long as I can still bitch about dumb things like Bark Madness. Best way to grow casual viewers into die hards IMO is to show hockey content in intermissions. Like out of town highlights. Give the casual fan a reason to keep watching hockey during the intermission instead of changing the TV to something else.
