A 1st for Garland would be okay-ish.

I think 4 years @ 5M per while needing top six minutes to be affective is a glaring issue. I love the Kaliyev/Lizotte/Lemieux combo but I don't want him to be stuck on the 4th line the next million years. (Edit: Him as in Kaliyev)

Couldn't Iafallo move to 3rd line?

Kings checked in on Garland last summer and decided to go with Arvidsson route instead. I don't see LA having any interest in him now, let alone for Turcotte+

This deadline will be really quiet for LA and no reason it shouldn't be. Any "big" deal should be saved for off-season if anything.

Friedman says LA interest in Garland and Vancouver wants Turcotte. There would probably be something else to add by LA but not a top level asset.

I really like this idea. Garland really stirs it up and his style is something I think the Kings need more of. He’s also got 4 years at 4.95 term. He does seem
to miss a small amount of games every year but hasn’t had a major injury as far as I can tell and just turned 26 in March. Turcotte is a top prospect still, but his potential ceiling is reduced IMO. He could still net out as good or maybe better than Garland but it’s not a solid for sure thing. Also he’s still colllecting pretty significant injuries and will likely continue to do that. His durability is questionable.

LA would trade a center with future and cash in potential for a nice line 2/3 wing. If this rumor has legs, I like it. We can’t play all of our centers and maybe some newly drafted guys like Helenius are making Turcotte less important to our rebuild.

Interesting.
Friedman never said such a thing. He said he thinks LA has asked about Garland and never mentioned Turcotte, just that LA does NOT want to part with their 1st rd pick or top prospects currently.

Interesting.
Freedman was the one guy who said that we were getting Denault

Garland smoke was def. there last year, I'd expect it would still be this year.

He definitely brings the sandpaper element, the 'drag you into the fight' Lemieux does, but from the middle six. But how many smaller players can this roster sustain?

I mean honestly at this point I’m shocked Blake hasn’t overreacted and added someone like Ritchie for the size element. I know they drafted Helenius but that’s not going to cut it. There is zero size or bite on d aside from Old Man Edler.

Well, all the small dudes are thriving in this system. Moore, Arvidsson, Lizotte. Garland is a line driver and would fit in perfectly in the type of attack.

But please not for Turcotte.

Always liked Garland's game. He was really good in AZ on that line with Keller. I don't like the idea of losing Turcotte though. Now that Vilardi is most likely gonna play wing and with Byfield struggling, we need as many decent prospects down the middle as possible.

You stick him with Kopi and drop Iafallo..
Have Garland be Kopitar’s new Brown and park his ass in front of the net and do the dirty work… which he does well

Copp + L. Stanley + PLD
Just call up Chevy & ask how much.

WPG needs LW to replace Copp, Stastny. Need C's & probably RD.

This does not fit any thread...but too good, not to be shared. He's in the Stars org. 4th rd pick, 2020.

Honestly it’s new and impressive way to crossover while stickhandling with speed. But if one of those opponents go a little low on a check to the knee, he’s going to be hurting I think.

I always love seeing that and when it works it works well

I love doing the same as part of some of my moves around the rink but the way he gains speed and can walk the rink doing it is really unique

The problem is when you open up your hip/groin that way you can't recover to neutral quickly, and it's easy to read which way you HAVE to go mechanically, that's a groin at best if someone catches him, its kind of impractical on a play to play basis but fun as hell to watch when he can uncork it

According to Elliotte Friedman Kings do not want to give their first for Garland. Turcotte is not in discussion for trading Garland

I find the news that the Kings don't want to trade their 1st this year very interesting. Early in the year I'd understand because at that time finishing in bottom 5 was a realistic consideration. But we are now solidly in the playoffs unless we completely collapse. Even if that happened, our pick would be at the end of the lottery and at best we're looking like 9-13 pick. So this isn't a potential top 3 pick or anything.

Makes me wonder if:
a) it's just the players mentioned (Garland, etc.) that we are adverse to trading that pick for -- and we'd be willing to trade it for the right person; or
b) we have our eye on a particular player or two (size, LHD, goalie) in that mid-round area; or
c) we are saving that chip (with other assets) to use in off-season to make a BIG pre-draft deal (LHD, elite scoring wing) -- knowing that teams love to get an immediate 1st round pick in those big off-season deals (better than future picks)....immediate young kid to elect for the fans as a replacement and for them to develop.

The Kings probably view the 1st as a better asset than some of the prospects they might be sending in potential trades, the problem is other teams likely feel the same way.

A potential #18 pick is probably behind Kaliyev, QB, Clarke and Faber on the Kings prospect rankings.

It could be all of the above. The main caveat being that you don't trade your first round pick for anyone.

If it’s a pick in the latter half of the first round, I think Garland signed on the contract he is on is totally worth it. However, I also think Blake would like to keep it for a LD trade leading up to the draft.

I'd rather pay more for Boeser or Bertuzzi...or see if the Hawks would deal Debrincat.

Garland had 8 pts his first 6 games and since, has 24 pts in his last 51. Kings need a bigger upgrade.
