As much as I like Roy I think this is the answer.Do not trade Spence, trade Roy and Walker
As much as I like Roy I think this is the answer.
Faber will likely be able to do what Roy can do.
We might want to get Faber in a few NHL games before we trade Roy. I love the thoughts of Faber walking straight into the NHL and excelling but for every prospect that does that there are probably 5 that fail.
He looked pretty good for a guy that missed 3 months with a broken ankle. I'm sure he is out of shape cardio wise after that layoff so they need to watch his minutes over the next couple of weeks as he plays his way into shape. How did Edler look last night? Did he seem like he had chemistry with Durzi? I like the look of that pairing.
Funny, this is exactly what we have been talking about for years and years, and it isn't even just about one line, its the whole team. Its the devil of longterm contracts in stark relief - the older, now faded Cup core veterans have too much clout in presence alone, much less active decision making.
The organization isn't going to take a major step forward until they and their influence is replaced by the kids. The longer they are kept deferring in support positions, the worse off they will be - the kids have been developed to be safe and fit into supporting roles instead of being allowed to play up to their abilities. That can't happen without suffering first, its all part and parcel of the rebuild.
You have to be willing to accept loses while building, but patronizing and lionizing the vets hasn't been a bridge to the future as much as slapping one coat of paint on a rusty door.
Yup, unless we're gonna bring in a Romanov or Sergachev we'll need to keep Roy for that aspect alone.Roy’s physical presence can’t be undervalued and if I remember well from the international tournaments Faber isn’t that physical.
There is truth to this. Guys need to take charge. But its also a different era in the league as well as the world in general. Theres a huge microscope on pro athletes and their behavior. The kids should take it if they want it. Apparently nobody is stopping them from asserting themselves, except themselves. Take the locker room. I don't care if you play 8 min a night. Dress for the job you want. Act like this is your team.
You think Doughty waited? They had veterans all over the place, and nobody could stop his tantrums. Even as they were marching toward a Cup.
One of the criticisms of the youth from the DL era was thar they weren't actual leaders. So if all these kids are real leaders, it really shouldn't be that difficult to usurp any old heads still here. Brown checked out after DL and Sutter took the C. Kopitar is weak. Doughty relies on others too much. Quick is Quick, but he's a goalie.
Assuming all players are healthy and we don’t make any trades at the deadline, what’s your roster for the rest of the season?
I have always found that Hoven has been pretty clear when it's his opinion or if something has come from sources (as we all know sources have mixed levels of insight and access themselves). I also find people tend to jump onto things he 'got wrong' but ignore the context. It was like the Iafallo deadline sign or trade saga. Hoven was saying that it was looking like he was going to get traded (as things stood). Because he signed people say Hoven was wrong, even though I read in more than one place that one of the parties (I forget who) shifted their position. So he wasn't wrong, the context changed. That's fair. I'm not saying you have to take Hoven's word as gospel. You're all intelligent enough to come to your conclusions.
I'm just pushing back on:
- the notion that Blake is the only person who has an inkling of what direction the Kings are going
- the idea that Hoven doesn't have resources that help him formulate an informed opinion.
Nobody is saying that Hoven (or Jesse, Zach Dooley, etc) are getting all the dirty details straight from Blake's mouth. But there are circles in hockey and they talk to each other. Not just in LA, but across the league and even in juniors.
Don't like the content? Unfortunate but understandable.
Don't believe that Hoven (or any of the recognized LA bloggers) is actually speaking with a variety of resources they trust to give an honest assessment? Then I feel the air needs to be cleared.

I don't know. This is very wishful thinking IMO. It usually takes defensemen a long time to become very good defensively in the NHL. Most of the time it doesn't happen until their mid 20's.Faber will likely be able to do what Roy can do much better
Buffalo is looking for a RD partner for Powers. Pretty sure they've noticed Faber after edging out powers for big10 D of the year & may pay a decent amount for him. This is one time I'm glad Blake is very conservative with the prospects.
It would be easy to go HAM at this deadline and go on a shopping spree with some of our trade chips but we just don't know what some of them even are yet. You'd never get fair value out of Faber, Spence for example.
Me thinks Bergevin tries to trade for Lehkonen, he always loved him when he was with the habs.
What are your thoughts on Logan Stanley? Big guys can take longer to put things together.Yup, unless we're gonna bring in a Romanov or Sergachev we'll need to keep Roy for that aspect alone.
A D core of Doughty, Spence, Durzi, Clarke, Anderson, and Bjornfot would be MURDERED. Probably softest in the entire NHL.
Roy’s physical presence can’t be undervalued and if I remember well from the international tournaments Faber isn’t that physical.

I'm sure there's interest. Not at a 1st round pick. MTL fans are in a feeding frenzy after Chiarot.

I agree. This is one reason the Kings would be smart to trade a veteran D instead of their prospects in the off season or next trade deadline if one of the prospects force their way onto the Kings. The return is better and frees up cap space for additional upgrades.Quote from you: “Buffalo is looking for a RD partner for Powers. Pretty sure they've noticed Faber after edging out powers for big10 D of the year & may pay a decent amount for him”.
Decent amount is not good enough for Faber in my opinion. He should be only traded for big overpayment or for equally talented player in position of need (young elite goalie or young elite LD).
I would trade Faber for Wallstedt from Minnesota…
The guy who can't play in Canada? No thanks.
