Trotz won a cup - well respected guy. We could do a lot worse than him.. rather see them tank from here without him, bring him starting before the draft, and come up with a 3 year plan in coordination with GM so they are aligned
Trotz wants to coach and then transition into a GM role according to Friedman and Marek going back to this summer. Unless AEG completely cleans house, I can't see him being the hire. He's also not known for developing young players at all. I don't think he'd be the right fit.

And that’s the thing, Blake goes out and hires the guy that got reverse swept? Isn’t that indicative of a coach who can’t adjust and control a room? You go hire a guy with such recent and embarrassing track record.

Worst part is they got a decent LHD sitting in Ontario in Bjornfot. Call up Bjornfot, and make Walker the 7th D.

Anderson-Doughty
Bjornfot-Roy
Edler-Durzi

See if that settles the defense. Which should’ve been tried 3-4 weeks ago.
Kings cannot play Edler anymore.
He is liability now.
Durzi is time bomb on defense, ready to explode any moment in a bad way.
He should be replaced by Spence ASAP.

If nobody claims him, these are the options I know offhand:
- Assign him to Ontario and call up Copley or Villalta
- Trade him to another team who would then be able to assign him to their AHL affiliate without him needing to clear waivers again (a lot of teams do this - they don't want to trade for an asset only to lose it on waivers, but they don't want to claim the player on waivers, because they also want to move a bad contract out)
- Do nothing. He stays up in the AHL but he's eligible to be assigned to the AHL in the next 30 days.
Kings will very likely keep him if he clears. They have no goalie prospects so they'll hope he regains his confidence and is at least an average NHL goalie.

Blake played for him, had a relationship with him.. that gave him a warm and fuzzy I assume. As a 1st time GM he was feeling around in the dark. I doubt he knew what kind of team he was going to build and wanted a guy he knew to work with - all speculation of course

I know this quote is from yesterday night but how as a coach can you say that? Imagine telling your boss this and not getting the boot when you’ve been at the job for a few years. This quote is so telling.

Horseshit......read the ENTIRE quote/story....there is context to that......

I have a feeling they'd need to make him a godfather style offer he can't refuse to get him in LA. I'd love to be wrong.

This quote doesnt bother me more than the one earlier in the year when he took 0 responsibility - said the players need to figure it out. I mean the team is playing a wild card Durzi 2nd pair and added another offense mostly play maker in Fiala.. the character of the team is less responsible than last year. This is partly roster construction.. I also think TM has lost the room a bit - based on that quote.. ie they are all confused.

Whatever the case is, he sounds defeated for sure. They need to get him out.

The canceled practice seems like a bomb to me.

Unless it's Blake and TM just hiding from the media and doing nothing else, in which case I will be absolutely furious that all they did was sacrifice the backup goalie and hide from hard questions, that would be a HARD 'f*** everyone' from me.

who takes those guys seriously though

Beat me to the ice cream from Stevens haha. Maybe Blake took everyone surfing and for smoothies, all is zen.

Waiving a player in his 1st year of a 3x5mil contract is a really big deal. Its the kind of move that is rarely made because it impugns your judgment as a GM. Im giving RB props for this... but there is a lot more accountability that needs to happen other than this before Id say things are heading in the right direction

One thing I've repeatedly praised Blake for is not subscribing to sunk-cost fallacy and this is a big example. So I'm trying to give him some rope here because of it.

I'm not defending him either because we absolutely needed change, but I feel for Cal. This is a guy in his own head; whether he pulls it back together and saves his career or just retires with the yips is entirely up to him. But the talent and the game was there:

He goes to Ontario, Kings get 1M in cap relief
AND Cal can get a good, long run of starts to get his starters mentality back.

Now what will happen in LA as Quick continues to struggle should be everybody's major concern. Biggest fear is Blake dealing away a high quality asset just to get a name in goal to backstop this rudderless mess to another early exit.

Waive Edler, trade back for Maataa. He worked really well with Roy defensively
Just recall Bjornfot.

Its literally the easiest and best option. He is two rooms away.

Given the type of competitor Quick is he will step up for a while, but can he sustain it?

Hopefully they'll start making the moves they needed to long before this stretch of rough games.

The other problem with the default "make the decision hard for them" speech is that right now, Blake is not making decisions based on performance.
They sent down all the guys with waiver exemptions.
Again, I'm fine with that decision so they can buy some more time to make moves, but more than 1/4 of the season has passed and nothing a single move has been made.
Guys are understandingly getting frustrated.

You really have to look at all the moves made around the league since Sept rolled around.

At least they were paid well for it! Free food at the area was also provided, undoubtedly.
Fagemo was paid $4,032.26 (minus taxes or other withholdings) for the day before being sent back down and wondering when he'll get his chance to make $4k+ every day while watching the rest of the players make substantially more money than he.

Not saying he shouldn't be grateful for earning more in a day than the average person makes in a month, but seeing how the rest of the team is doing has got to be deflating.

Now post the game starts from those years because the ones with the better save percentage are when he started like 10 games.
