So again is TM wrong or do guys just have a burr up their ass because they don't like him, with this group I tend to think the latter because half the time they type with their dicks instead of their mind
I completely agree that players should be rewarded for strong play and ice time is definitely the best reward out there. Lizotte is a great 4C because he can play up the lineup in needed and do a strong if unspectacular job in doing that. At this point I’m ok with Byfield getting minutes anywhere in the lineup however at some point they need to move him back to the middle, because they can’t just focus on the now.

The issue I do have though is that the principle of rewarding effort with ice time has to apply at every level of the lineup, then you get the right culture. I think there are mixed views on if that is the case but that’s a separate point to debate.

Why would Ottawa want to move their #1 D?
Bedard?

It happens,...Gretzky got moved. Juan Soto got moved from the Nationals to the Padres. Ronaldo moved out from Man U and then again from Madrid, Messi moved on from Barca. Yes, 2 of them were not trades but you know what I mean..people do move on and players want to win. I'm not sure if it's a pipe dream or not and. I don't expect big trades in the post Covid era though. I'm less optimistic as we don't see the big trades like we did from the 90s, 00s etc anymore but if it can be worked out, keep going. I'd jump on the bandwagon here. Why not...if anything it will be a fun ride. If not, let's burn it all down and start over. Draft picks are fun right?? (crickets)....

Why is there talk about Chabot? Is he even available? Dude would not come cheap.

Another poster threw his name out there.

He wouldn't be cheap, but he wouldn't cost the moon, either. He's not a #1 D, and his production is far below the market value of his contract.

Something like Durzi, Bjornfot, and a 1st is more than enough, arguably an overpayment on our end.

Ideally, if you bring in a player like Chabot, you may as well go after Gavrikov in free agency, as well. Flip Roy for a high pick, and waive Walker if needed. Even though I would hate to lose Durzi, we would need Gavrikov's size, and this alignment allows for our best defensive prospects to actually play.

Anderson-Doughty
Chabot-Clarke
Gavrikov-Spence
Moverare

It's fantasyland stuff because Blake will likely just wait out the expiration date on most of the Pokemon he's collected, but fun to think about.

Simple question. After watching Gavrikov a few games is there anything else to his game other than being big and usually in the righ position. Doesn’t look like he has a mean streak, not a lot of hits and doesn’t fight.

Do we have a poor man’s version in Ontario called Moverare?

Not being hard on the guy just asking others who may have seen him play more.

Another poster compared him to a left handed Matt Greene, and I think that's a solid comparison. He's not the type of player who's going to wow anyone if he's doing his job correctly.

The Kings desperately need a large, physical, crease clearing presence like Gavrikov on the bottom pairings. They don't have anyone like that at the NHL level. Gavrikov fills that need. Plus, he's left handed.

I was not impressed the last few times I saw Gavrikov either. It doesn't help that there are no other Russians on the Kings. Any time the Kings bring a Swede in, they have tons of fellow countrymen to welcome them and help them assimilate fast. Maybe Eckholm would be good, but with 6.25 cap hit, they would have to take back Walker or Petersen. I like Jeremy Lauzon for sure and could use toughness on the backend.

Speaking of the Preds, what happened to Tanner Jeannot? He would be a great 4th line player, but he's fallen wayyy off, from 25 goals to 3. Is he injured / playing with injury? The bottom 6 is not where the Kings need help, but toughness, for certain. Lemieux is a penalty magnet, when he does anything.

I would want McCabe, from that list. I still want to see Durzi on the right and just replace BOTH Edler and Walker. Acquiring any LHD would help do that. If I were Blake, would still inquire about Werenski...tell Kekalainen that he can re-sign Gavrikov, by taking Werenski off his hands. haha. Especially if his shoulder would be healed and sound by mid-April.

You’d be surprised how cheap he might be..
Ottawa is in a bad spot with their cap..
Zaitsev and Zub will eat up $9mill of cap, they still need to sign DeBrincat who’ll cost $7-$9 per. Norris will need a new deal after next and the team will still need goaltending..

Chychrun:

Cheaper contract and better producer. But astronomical asking price, seldom healthy, maybe plays softer minutes?

Chabot:
plays big minutes, decent point producer. Way more expensive contract, we're not even sure if he's available

I think if I had to choose I'd prefer Chabot over Chychrun, but both players are very tricky to acquire. The Yotes asking price for Chyrchrun just doesn't make it worth it to me. You trade for Chabot, which by the way we don't even know if he's available, you have to give up a Petersen or an Iafallo just to get the cap balanced and then I wouldn't know how the rest of it would unfold.

If the Sens and the Kings are talking trades it has to be someone like Holden.

I don't hear Jeremy Lauzons name thrown around enough. Solid shut down #4/5 who plays a hard nosed game; decent size.

Why do you think anyone would be hearing that name? Nas is in no position to start rebuilding, as their contract situation doesn't lean that way at all, plus I doubt Poile even knows that word exists, and he's on a very cheap contract.

Fun fact but Chabot is the better producer slightly off as a goal scorer but a much better passer. Chabot has played 13 less games than Chychrun but has 48 more points.

Gavrikov isn’t half of what Matt Greene brought to the roster, on and off the ice.

Dude is a big, soft, mediocre play driver. I don’t see the hype.

Never said he’s as good as prime Greene. Just agreeing with another poster’s comparison in style of play.

I think people on this board (myself included) are hard after Gavrikov because he’s the only available top four defensemen who fills multiple needs on our blueline. Everyone else either costs too much or doesn’t quite fit what we need.

Super risky, shoulder injuries are complicated and take a while to come back from, and can be easily reinjured or strain another part of the shoulder when compensating. I wouldnt exect much from Werenski until 24/25.
Agree Gavrikov not worth it.
I wouldn't shoulder Chabot's 8 million thru 28/28, and a NMC kicking in, without Merailinen and them taking Cal as part of the deal.
And I would hevily consider dumping him before the NMC kicks in 24/25.

He’s not there #1
Plays 5 min/game more than any other player on OTT, 2 min/game more on 5v5, top 3 PP min, but doesn't PK. I see those numbers as the #1D.

But it is concerning that he doesn't PK, that's kind of the roll we need someone to play.

I don't want to go the rental route, but if we did I would like to try to get Graves out of NJD. They are in the playoff race, so I don't know if they would even consider it.

They also have a kid named Kevin Bahl, 6'6" 215lbs. Originally taken in the 2nd round by AZ.

With a rumor out there the Hughes is going to sign after his college season ends, the kings may be able to pick up one of them.
