It's hard for a player to get better in the NHL if he never plays in the NHL. Young players are going to make mistakes as part of the learning process. It would have been great if Spence was given more opportunities to fail, learn, and adjust earlier in the season, as opposed to now when things are apparently too tight for a single mistake.

And everyone has seen this coming all year frankly.

Gonna repost my schedule as usual
like i said in other threads it's a self fulfilling prophecy that just self perpetuates for infinity until management or coaching breaks the chain

Can't play the kids all preseason, vets have to get ready too you know
Can't play the kids this early in the season, we're floundering and have to get back on track, they're not ready
Can't play the kids while we're on a winning streak, why shake up a great lineup?
Can't play the kids midseason, we're in the thick of the playoff chase and they're not ready
Can't play the kids down the stretch, every game is basically a playoff game
Can't play the kids in the playoffs, they're not ready

This is the only one I can get behind. It's a Dave Roberts type move to say play a rookie at leadoff when the leadoff hitter is currently on a 10 game hitting streak batting .575, and the team has won 12 straight. You never F with a streak!

example: Quick had 3 straight shutouts, Sutter played the back up goalie the next game , ignoring the streak and they lost. Quick lost 4 straight and the team went on a long losing streak.

When you overplay guys, the more likely they will get hurt after a long season. Especially veterans guys or guys not used to playing a full 80+ game season. Not saying that's why guys have gotten hurt at the end for the Kings the last two years. Just saying, that's happens....and is something to take note of.

A team like the Kings with great depth and lots of young guys that can take minutes throughout the year and ease the burden of a 80-100 game hockey season -- should be taking advantage of that.

oh yeah in isolation totally.

That's part of the chain of events above though!

I also forgot the corollary, "can't play the kids after a loss, need the vets to right the ship" to go along with the 'only change the lineup after victory, never defeat' part of TM coaching strategy

The injuries we have seen and I don't know avout Eds but Fi Vi Ando, were one offs not wear and tear related.
The Kings went from playing catch up to being on streaks when you don;t make changes to a playoff position battle.
No real easy spots to insert guys and in the end 100 points is hard to criticize.
They played Brandt like crazy until he was going to burn a year.

At this point play as many of they young guys as you can. There are only two games left so there is no point in risking the best players. If they drop to a WC it might just be better for them.

I was here to see just where the injured guys are but don't see anything. Are they in full body casts being fed by a tube or is there a chance they will be in for the playoffs?

I keep thinking this joke is going to get stale, but it just keeps delivering.
It’s no joke, it’s serious business. With Laf getting +3 in his most recent game in Ontario (he scored too but that does not matter), he instantly became our #1 prospect.

Just give it another year or so when it finally sets in that he has no clear shot to make the team until he is waiver eligible and hell be a run of the mill system grinder like the rest of em.

good news all around, maybe that means there's a chance at vilardi in for the ducks?

i wouldn't be icing fiala until the playoffs anyway so i guess that's a bit of a wash

Buffalo fan here --

We were talking about potential trades for defenseman in the offseason. Somebody mentioned Matt Roy and I said I'd happily give up 13OA (pretty likely our draft spot) for him. Would that be fair-ish value, or do the Kings intend on signing him long-term?

Can't play the kids because they're not used to an 82-game schedule and might get hurt.

IF Roy nets the 13th OA, you take that every day and twice on Sundays, you use that cap space....you can even pair up that pick with another prospect to get a player better than Roy etc
