LA Kings: new GM wanted -- inquire within

I think if the coach was a different name besides TM (but same exact everything else), there would be a much smaller fraction of the complaints. There still would be lots of such and valid as well. But it being TM with his history and the fact he is SOOOO highly paid -- it all combines to quite a lot of scrutiny and skepticism. Ultimately, those that complain will need to be proven wrong -- if they ever are to be turned around on TM. I am 100% sure all of them (me included) would LOVE to be wrong about TM and ultimately have TM bring us a SC win. Eating that crow would taste so good and be the best meal indeed. We all want the Kings to win and be successful -- regardless of the coach, players, GM, etc.

Probably the same with Blake. A different name and there isn't as much complaints about him. But both of them have to prove people wrong. Blake being a newbie GM and the way he got the position. TM with the questionable playoff history and seemingly bad fit for a team semi rebuilding with so much youth.

I mean that's the point though right? Is we've seen what the ceiling looks like for TMc throughout his career. I suppose it's possible that it's a glass ceiling and this could be the breakthrough season where he shows more adaptability and evolution in his game and player management style. We all hope that's the case and that he brings the third Stanley Cup parade to LA. But so far he doesn't instill that kind of confidence come playoff time. Win a couple playoff rounds and don't be one of the main reasons the Kings get eliminated and the narrative could change.

They need to parole Arthur kaliyev from prison in the offseason and trade him to an organization that is smart enough to see his talent.
I should clarify that it isnt the org, its our choker coach that has no idea of what he has in kaliyev. Otherwise, why would you scratch kaliyev for a marginal nhl player. As far as macewen being tougher and all that, let me repeat what i saw a flyers fan say about his trade to the kings: “good. Now he can go out there and stop punches with his face”.

the goalie rotation....it's working, right? So what happens in the playoffs?

I know there's time for one of these guys to drop off which will make the other the most likely choice, but is it an absolute bananas idea to think we would rotate goalies come first round? DISCUSS

Honestly, it may go against the norm but if it’s working it’s working and I stick with it. If you think about it goalies prep to play against the opposition, but the opposition also preps to play against the goalie so I guess the opposition needs to study two different goalie playbooks instead of one. Might not be a bad idea.

We have an underdog, and we have a guy playing for a contract. Both should have a lot of fight in them.

I think at some stage you go with the hot hand, especially if one appears to have a clear edge. Much depends on health/fitness also. I think play-off experience will come into play also.

It’s not a clear answer but there’s too many unknowns at this point. I’ll have a different answer before game 1.

I could see Korpisalo getting game 1 to begin. If he loses 2in a row it’s Copley up for the rest of the series.

I don't see how it isn't Korpisalo in Game 1, and unless they go down 1-3 looking bad and need something to change things up, that he's not the guy as far as he takes them.

I think you know you have Copley. He doesn't seem to be the high maintanance type. If he's on the bench for Game 1, it's not going to mess with him. He'll be ready if and when needed.

Not that Korpisalo has ever really been the guy, or seems to be mentally not ready to do what's best for the team, but he was brought in at the deadline as an upgrayedd, and has playoff experience. His job to lose.

It's like they are finally addressing what should have been addressed 1-2 years ago: (size, LHD, goaltending) getting a legit, near elite goalie prospect, getting a LHD with size, that is ready for AHL...and of course Gavrikov as #2LHD with size and great defensive ability and near elite goalie in Korpisalo.

Will be interesting to see what happens with resigning (or not) Gavrikov, Korpisalo and what happens with Bjornfot, Walker, Spence, Durzi. The only known is that Edler will be done. Lots of RFAs: Vilardi, Kupari, Bjornfot, MacEwen, Fagemo, Akil Thomas, Madden. Andersson. (seems Andersson has no future here; they gave MacEwen his #17)

Hope Laferriere signs soon and goes to the Reign. Not sure how long Pinelli, Clarke and Portillo will be playing, playoffs, final 4 potential.

edit: wonder why Florida would not sign Krygier. do they have a Kings type of problem with many LHD prospects?

I just looked at the remaining schedule and if nothing changes from here to the last day, it will actually be Copley’s turn in the rotation for Game 1. Personally, I want Korpisalo to start but something will need to change for that to happen.

The other thing to consider, if we have any hopes of signing Korpi -- he needs to be the guy playing most games in the playoffs. Why would he sign this offseason to be a the backup guy to Copley? Plus, we need to see what we have in Korpi playoff wise -- in order to determine if he's the guy we want to stick with for the next 1-3+ years until a young guy ascends to the position.

What you say makes sense, but we’re talking TM player deployment so all bets are off.
